I carved a pumpkin last night and it turned out a little rough . . . If anyone can guess what it is, I'll give you a cookie! I'll put the answer in the comments.
Yeah, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, and Frisian are pretty easy for English speakers to learn. That would be a result of England's historic ties with those nations. The Anglo-Saxons migrated from modern-day northern Germany, southern Denmark, and the Netherlands. Later, parts of northern and eastern England were conquered by the Norsemen who left a lot of Old Norse words in our language. The Christians from continental Europe contributed a lot of Latin and Greek words to our language. Because the Anglo-Saxons didn't have a word for "pillar of light" (I forgot the Latin term) They invented the word "sunbeam."
I just got my Latin books today actually. I'm using Hans Orberg's curriculum. What are you using?
A great source would be The Ecclesiastical History of the English People by Bede, and The History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth. That's where I learned about that time in history. There is also a channel on youtube called History Time that has a lot of information on the subject. The documentaries on there are probably as good as the ones one might see on TV.
Interesting. Which languages are you learning? I was doing Latin and Irish on Duolingo, but I had to stop because some of the sentences on there were...questionable, to say the least.
Is HSLDA Homeschool Legal Defense? I think my parents used that for me when I was in school.
