This is the direct sequel to The First Battle of Plennon Bridge and is made up of mostly dialogue. If you notice any grammar mistakes, let me know.
“Ko.”
…
“Ko!”
…
“KODAN!!”
Kodan came back to consciousness with a start. He heard the Unnshi Falls in the distance, but something was missing. Ah, there was no sound of steel on steel.
“Kodan! I thought you were dead!”
The familiar face of Jek appeared above him. He looked around and found himself in a clearing in some scraggly woods.
“We made it off the bridge, Kodan.”
…
“How many did we lose?”
“Over two hundred.”
“Maker help us…”
“Do you think we’ll make it back to the city?”
“I don’t know Jek.”
“Well, I certainly don’t think so. I hope I can say farewell to Elly. I wonder what type of fang will be my doom…”
“Jek, we might still make it out of here.”
“The fangs took the bridge and are circling our camp as we speak. I really don’t think so. Hmm. I hope I perish fighting a gray fang. They look the coolest.”
“Jek! Focus on staying alive and killing the gray fangs! And the other ones as well!”
…
“I saw Vub among the fang commanders.”
“What? Did you kill him?”
“No. I’m not an archer, and he was a long way off.”
“I’m going after him if I see him, no matter how many other fangs bar the way.”
…
“What’s that?”
“What?”
“Looks like some sort of army... It’s coming from the east.”
“Jek, the only army I see is ours. And it barely qualifies as one in this state.”
“Don’t you see it?”
“No I don’t- Wait… Hey, you’re right! It does look like that!”
“I told you.”
Kodan turned to one of his nearby friends and said, “Hey! Nome! Look through your spyglass. Is that an army?”
…
“By the Maker, it is!”
“Of what sort?”
“I can’t tell. They don’t seem to be in an attack formation… Hmm. They’re definitely human… Hey, wait a minute! They’re Rovers!”
“Don’t they work with the fangs?”
“Ehh. They’re just forced into submission. They have no love for Gnag or his armies. And there are a whole lot of Rover tribes. I’m sure that not all of them got turned.”
Another one of the troops spoke up, “Didn’t you hear? It ain't Gnag’s army anymore! The Jewels of Anniera came back and kicked his behind! I heard that they even healed the Sea Dragons so that they got wings again! Not sure I believe that part though. Sea Dragons never had no wings”
…
“YOU’RE SAYING THAT AS IF IT’S THE MOST NORMAL THING IN AERWIAR!! YOU SERIOUSLY HEARD THAT GNAG IS DEAD!!?? WHY ISN’T THIS BLASTED WAR OVER THEN!!??” Jek yelled.
“Relax, sonny,” the soldier replied. “The fangs is still here, ain't they? We still have a whole lot of fighting left to do. Now, seeing as those Rovers is getting closer, let’s notify the general and get ready for battle just in case.”
Nome got up first and walked towards General Yevven’s tent. The rest of them followed shortly. Nome launched into his report.
“Good afternoon, General. Jek Hodoback here noticed what looked like an army coming from the east. After further review, I have found that it is in fact an army, an army of Rovers. Considering their past alliances, I suggest that we parley with them, with our army in defensive positions. Also, according to Pebblow, Gnag is dead.”
“Thank you for the report, Nome. I will gather the rest of the troops imm- WAIT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN GNAG IS DEAD!!??”
“Dead. D-E-A-D. Deceased; No longer living; In the state of complete physical and psychological-”
“I know what dead means! Where did Pebblow get this news?”
Pebblow stepped forward and said, “From a Hollish merchant back in Belintha six months ago. Oh, and from a ridgerunner more recently.”
“You knew of this six months ago and didn’t tell us!?”
“Uhm, yessir.”
Yevven sighed
“I need to prepare for the parley. We will talk more about this later.”
The general gathered the troops and greeted the Rovers through a translator.
“Do you come as friends or as enemies?”
The Rover leader had a dark blue cloak and long gray hair. He responded, “We wish to aid you in your fight against the fangs. We have heard the news of Gnag’s demise, and we are filled with a new hope and drive to repel the fangs from the land.”
“The Fangs have taken the Plennon Bridge. With your help-” The General paused to look at the Rover army, “-I think we could take it back and set up a secure barrier. The bridge is the only known way across the Unnshi, other than by boat. Which I’m sure you know is next to impossible. If we hold the bridge, the fangs cannot come any further south.”
“We will agree to help you, as long as you agree to help us if the Fangs come into our land.”
“You are proposing a fair arrangement. I agree.”
“Good. We will set up our camp over the next ridge.”
The leader gave the signal, and the Rovers continued on their way.
Kodan turned to Jek.
“Well, it looks like we’re gonna make it through after all! I guess saying goodbye to Elly is unnecessary?”
With a jab to Jek’s ribs, Kodan turned and walked away.
That was really good! The story is extremely exciting so far!!
