Chapter 32 Biolumia
There was a tiny edge all the way around the cave where they could step. They all entered in a single file. It wasn't a very big edge around the cave to where the stepping stones were.
“What is this place?” Leeli asked, as Janner helped her onto the stepping stones.
“I have no idea, it's not like anything I've ever seen,” Artham replied as he jumped on to one of the stones.
“In the words of General Snip ‘it is quite remarkable indeed.’ ” Oskar said as he wobbled and slipped and almost fell into the water on one of the stones.
They all hopped from one stone to the next till they reached the island. The grass was the softest grass they'd ever felt, it was sort of a tealish green color but nothing compared to how beautiful the castle was. It looked like it was formed out of sparkling Ice crystals themselves, and the spires were the color of the night sky as stars danced through it. They all were so distracted by looking around and also helping Oskar on the stones, that they didn't notice a woman curling her hands standing right in front of the castle door.
“Who are you and why are you here?” the woman asked sternly. At this, all of the Wingfeathers jumped. This startled Oskar so much that he fell in the water. Esben and Nia helped him up but everyone was staring at the woman. She had dark teal hair that faded to a lighter teal color and part of it was pulled behind her ear; her dress was a dark navy color and went all the way down to her ankles. She wore a black necklace with a single pearl in the middle and in her hair was an even darker teal crown. She was frowning, her arms were raised, her hands were curled and there were orbs of white and silver power bursting out of each hand.
“Are you going to answer me?” the woman asked,
“Oh sorry, my name is Kalmar Wingfeather and this is my family.” He said as he took a step closer.
At this the woman's eyebrows raised and she moved her hands up more. Suddenly from the ocean surrounding them the waves came bursting up, but they didn't crash over them; they just sat there in mid-air. It was the woman's power.
“How are you doing that?” Janner asked in shock of what was
happening.
“I have a power called telekinesis,” the woman said.
“Teleki what?” Kalmar repeated, not sure what the word meant. “Telekinesis," the woman corrected. “I have a power called telekinesis. It's moving inanimate objects with your mind....…Wait, why am I even saying this? Why are you here!?” the woman asked.
“We're sorry we didn't mean to trespass, it's just that there's this
queen that's chasing us. It's a very long story but we just need shelter and we thought maybe someone would help us.” Nia explained, “Queen, do you mean Queen Opal Stars?” the woman asked as a rush of sadness and worry appeared over her face.
“Yes… how do you know?” Janner asked.
“Let's just say Opal hurt many people…” the woman said sadly. As
she put her arms down, the waves went down with a crash.
“What do you mean?” Kalmar asked.
“Kal, if she doesn't want to tell us, it's fine.” Janner said knowing what it's like to not want to talk about something in front of people.
“It's fine, but you should come in first, the Misty Scales Palace is a wonderful place to tell stories. My name is Queen Marina Mist by the way.” she said with a wink. She turned to the castle gates and opened them up. They followed Marina into the beautiful blue and purple opalescent palace.
“Welcome to the Misty Scales Palace!” Marina said excitedly as she stood near a large spiral staircase, holding her hands out showing them everything that was there. Their eyes were wide as they took in the beauty of the palace. The walls looked like they had been made out of ice almost, so did the floors. The staircase was huge and was a silvery opalescent color. Leading to the staircase was a dark purple velvet rug, and the walls were covered with golden picture frames and artwork of all sorts of things with a gold swirl border all around them. Hanging from the ceiling, which was incredibly high, was a large light blue sapphire chandelier. Little white and gold tables lined the hallways. They each had a vase in a different color with icy blue flowers in them that almost looked like they were made out of ice, themselves.
“You live here?!” Sara exclaimed, taking in the beauty of the
palace.
“Yes I do, although I do enjoy the village, the villagers are quite
magical.” Marina said with a twinkle in her eye. “If you want to know what happened to me and where you are then follow me.” Marina said as she walked down one of the hallways. They all followed her asking her tons of questions which she answered to all of them “Just wait.” Then they came to another sort of hallway but this one had portraits of what appeared to be past and present royals. Marina stopped when she got to one that was at the very end. This one was the most recent of them all. There was a kind man with his wife who had beautiful teal hair, and their children. There were two boys and one girl. The man in the picture looked oddly familiar to Janner but he couldn't place it.
“Is that you?” Leeli asked, pointing to the woman in the picture. Marina looked longingly at the picture, when she said, “Yes it is, me, well, 10 years ago anyways… a lot of things have happened since then and a lot of things that I wish hadn't happened ....” Marina said as a voice trailed off and tears pricked her eyes.
The man in the picture bothered Janner. “Why did he look so familiar?” Then Janner noticed that at the bottom of the picture they wrote the names of all of the people in the picture. It read: Queen Marina Blagus, King Ben Blagus, Prince Jet Blagus, Prince Rand Blagus, and Princess Milly Blagus.
“Blagus!!! It can't be the same guy…” Janner thought to himself as
his mind raced, “of course it's the same guy the picture is identical to him!” He thought and then nudged Kalmar on the shoulder and pointed towards the nameplate and then pointed towards the man in the picture.
“Mayor Blagus!! and Rand and Jet!!” Kalmar exclaimed. He couldn't quite grasp the concept of the fact that his old friends back in Glipwood were royalty as well.
“We have to tell the others," he said, as he nudged Leeli on the
shoulder. Eventually all the Wingfeathers turned to look at the picture to see that Mayor Blagus was standing right beside Marina along with Rand, Jet, and Milly, all standing perfectly royal in the picture.
“Now what in the deep is going on? Are you seriously telling me that good old Mayor Blagus is the king of wherever we are right now?” Podo asked, thinking of all the times back in Glipwood when he thought Mayor Blagus was a good for nothing mayor who couldn't see that the fangs were using them, even if the fangs tied him up and shoved him in the black carriage themselves.
“Excuse me Marina, can you tell us more about this picture?” Nia
asked kindly. Marina turned around and said “There's not really that much to tell, it's just a family portrait. Well, what used to be my family anyways…” she said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“What happened?” Sara asked, knowing exactly what happened for the fact that she personally knew Mayor Blagus and Rand and Jet and Milly back in Glipwood.
Marina sighed and said “about 10 years ago now, my husband Ben, and my three children were taken by a dark black carriage. I followed the carriage all the way to when it stopped at a dock near a place called Mushroom Marsh. I couldn't see the driver of the carriage very well but I could see that she was a woman and I could see that there was a tiny bit of red hair, the reddest hair I've ever seen in my life. It looked like flames; it was so red, sticking out of her dark, black hood. She got out of the carriage and shoved my family onto this dark, black boat. I haven't seen them since.” Marina explained sadly. All of the Wingfeathers exchanged a happy glance.
Janner said, “We've seen your family. They're alive and living happily in a place called Glipwood. It’s actually sort of where we were from. Actually, Kal and I were best friends with your sons and Leeli was friends with Milly. And your husband was our Mayor.”
At this Marina's face looked like a hole in her heart that had been
there for so long was now filled. “They are - they are alive?” she managed to croke out.
“Yes, they're living in Glipwood currently.” Sara explained, not
mentioning the fact that Milly got taken by the black carriage before their entire adventure started and was probably where only the Maker knows where by now.
“Now that we've told you something, can you please tell us where in all of The Shining Isle are we?!” Artham asked.
“Oh right, I should have led that with this, come with me and I'll show you.” Marina said, as she walked the other way to the castle gates again.
They followed her outside the castle to the stepping stones area.
“Welcome to Biolumia!” Marina said excitedly, as she danced through the stepping stones and flung her arms in the air. She used her telekinesis to create a rainbow out of mist, sparkling in the sunlight!!
Wow, talk about plot twist.
