Chapter 49 It's Time For Backup!
Suddenly a massive light appeared in the sky. One so bright, everyone, even the Titanium Fangs, looked up to see what it was. It was Opal's dragon fire. Everyone looked at her and listened to what she said.
“Wingfeathers! You may think that I am done, that after all the Titanium Fangs and Titanium Trolls that I wouldn't have anything left. But if you thought that you would be very, very, very wrong. I have something more powerful than Fangs or trolls. Do you want to know what I have? I have dragons!” she yelled, grinning. And the very moment that she said this: hundreds, maybe even thousands of different colored dragons that all had this greenish glow in their eyes, walked up next to her. They all looked magnificent. But something about the way that their eyes looked scared Janner. Their pupils were incredibly thin in their round eyes and surrounding their eyes was glowing green magic. They look Infested by it.
“Great great just great! So not only does she have Titanium Fangs and Titanium Trolls but now she has Super evil dragons! Are you kidding me!?” Kalmar shrieked, about ready to give up on this entire thing. Janner sensed this and gave him a reassuring look that meant everything would be fine. At least he hoped everything would be fine.
“We have dragons too!” Nia shouted up to Opal.
“Oh yes, you have your pitiful little sea dragons. These dragons are really dragons, ones with four legs and wings. Yes, I'm aware that sea dragons have wings too but my dragons have always had wings, and are under my complete and total control.” She said, narrowing her eyes at Nia.
“That monster!!” Leeli exclaimed, horrified that Opal had the dragons under her control, forcing them to do things against their will.
“Well she is a super evil queen so I would expect as much.”
Janner said. He couldn't imagine what Opal must have done to get the dragons under her control. But he thought it had something to do with the glowing green magic around their eyes and how their pupils were in slits. Apparently, he took too long to think about this because the war had already started again.
Opal sent the dragons soaring; they soared across the sky with their jaws wide open. Janner noticed this and immediately pulled Kalmar, Leeli, and Sara down with him underneath the bush and signaled for the others to come with him.
“Out of the mouth of Weaver the Beaver,” Oskar said and “What are you doing boy?”’ he asked.
“Back in Glipwood, I used to read adventure books all the time. I mean all the time, like it was one of the things I would read most. For back then all this craziness didn't happen to us. But anyways I read up on a lot of books about dragons cuz they're interesting and I love the Dragon Day Festival. One thing I learned about these types of dragons is that when they're under control of someone evil they can do things that they have no control over. And when they're soaring in the sky and opening their mouths you have to get out, as soon as you physically can, for they are going to start breathing fire on everything and everyone who's below them!” Janner explained. He was thinking back to all the adventure fantasy books that he had read in Glipwood and chuckled to himself about the fact that he was living in one of those adventure fantasy books right now.
“Well, what are we going to do?” Sara asked even more worried than she had been before.
“What we do is we use this to our advantage. If we can get the Annierians out of the way of the dragons and we can get the dragons to fight the Fangs and trolls we can use this to our advantage.” Nia said, thinking of a plan.
“Janner, what do those types of dragons like to eat?” she asked. “Um.. fire flowers, dragon fruit, gems, fish, they don't like eels…” he said, landing on the one that he knew his mother was thinking of.
“Jems!”
“That's right!” she said looking at Artham smiling with a plan.
“Oh no”, Artham said jokingly as he saw the look on her face and knew she was thinking of something that was probably going to be dangerous for him to do.
“Artham, I need you to go into Castle Rysen and find that box that Maraly and Gammon said they found. I remember storing all of my precious jewels and gems inside of it.” she explained as he took off to go do this. They stepped outside the bush to see that the dragons were now all circling in a circle in the sky. A cloud of smoke covered the ground, causing them all to start coughing like crazy. They saw a familiar figure walk towards them. It was Maraly.
“There you are! I thought you got eaten or stomped on by a troll or a dragon or a Fang or something!” Maraly said.
“Nope! done that once, don't need to do it again.” Podo said, thinking back to when he got eaten by Yurgen.
“Where is Mr Artham?” Maraly asked, noticing that he was gone.
“He went to Rysen to pick up something of mine that I need for a plan.” Nia said, smiling to herself, as she thought of this said plan.
“Well okay, just please don't die.” Maraly said, eyeing Janner. Then Maraly cartwheeled (which they didn't know she could do) off and somehow was using three swords (two in her hands and one in her mouth) and swung them like crazy. The Strander side of her was really showing in the war.
The war had been going on for about 7 hours now when Artham came flying back to them with the box full of gems and jewels.
“Perfect!” Nia said, as she put her hands on her hips. She dug through the box and then she handed each one of them some gems and said, “We are going to throw these at the dragons on the other side of the field. If everything goes according to plan then the dragons will leave us alone and start attacking the Fangs.” she said. Janner looked at her like she was out of her mind but then decided to give the plan a chance because honestly, they didn't have anything else.
So they all got into position. They told Maraly and Gammon their plan and they helped too, and they all waited for the dragons to stop circling. Then they threw the gems in the air on the other side of the field. Immediately after he did this, Janner regretted it deeply and thought how horribly this was going to go wrong. But then he took back that thought when all the dragons chased after the gems bringing their fire along with them. For the first 5 minutes it seemed like everything was going to be fine. It seemed like they were going to win the war, it seemed like the dragons were going to take out all the Fangs and trolls and they would just have Opal to beat. But that was not the case. For their plan which seemed good at the time backfired on them pretty heavily. Because now, all of the dragons who had just had some nice yummy gems, wanted more gems. Opal was controlling them so of course she made them rain fire on the entire field.
“Oh Come on!!” Kalmar moaned, as the burning fire raced across the grassy field. Nia looked discouraged but Esben cheered her up by saying “It's not your fault Nia, it's Opal’s, she's controlling them.”
“Thanks," she said softly, but she wasn't necessarily worried about the plan failing; she was more worried about the fact that that was the only thing left that she thought would work. So they went back trying to survive the battle a little longer. They kept swinging their swords, fighting with their axes and Podo managed to swing a shuriken around like the old pirate he was.
It was now hour nine of the war. They were all exhausted, but the Fangs and dragons and trolls had more energy than a wild newborn Squeeblin. Kalmar was fighting one, particularly aggressive Fang, when he yelled over to Janner above the screaming cries of the trolls and the screeching of the dragons,“You know what would be really nice right now? If Rose and the other Emerald Foresters and the Biolumines and the Ember Islanders would just show up and help us.” He said hopefully.
“That's never going to happen, Kal they hate us.”
“Not Rose. And they don't hate us. I think if we just think positively maybe they'll show up.”
“Yeah sure, Kal, that'll definitely happen. I'm sure if we just think positively enough Rose and all the other villagers including some of the Aerwiarians will just show up on a Sky Ship in the middle of the sky. Then Rose would just fly down the rope and say ‘Hey, Wingfeathers, you need some help?’” Janner said sarcastically, as he swung his sword through the air at a Fang who dunked underneath it. Kalmar would have been paying attention to the Fang that was about to attack him, but he was staring at something with his mouth wide open and his eyes looking like the size of a glippfruit.
“Janner look! a Sky Ship!” Kalmar said, pointing to the sky. Janner looked up to his amazement that there was really a Sky Ship in the sky. it was a dark purple wood color, the sales were mint green, and they could see through the windows that there was a gold, glowing light in them. At the very tip of this ship, there was a little lantern with a bright teal glowing mushroom in it, and in the back of the ship there were three holsters all with gigantic crystals shoved inside.
“I don't believe it!” Janner said in amazement.
“What is that?” Leeli asked, walking over to them. Sara joined them as well as the adults to look at the strange flying ship.
Suddenly out of nowhere, a long brown rope came twisting down from the ship. Once the people aboard made sure that it was safe, a familiar girl who had light purple hair with the tips white and pointy ears, and a smile on her face like no other, came twisting down the rope. She was practically flying over the tops of the Fangs’ heads. She managed to kick them in the head, when she flew over them and she landed perfectly on the ground on her feet. She was wearing a purple battle armor dress, with gold buckles and straps, and the bottom of her flowy skirt was also a gold color. Her face showed determination and she waved her long flowy ponytail. She put one hand on her hip and said, “Hey Wingfeathers! need some help?”
They all looked at her and were shocked because this girl was Rose and she had said the exact thing and wore the exact look that Janner had predicted. Kalmar was the first to snap out of this and he shook his head furiously and said, “Rose! you're here! but how?”
“Oh well, when Mr. Stars betrayed us, we Emerald Kingdom Villagers and the Biolumines and the Ember Islanders and the Aerwiarians all….” she said and then paused, as she saw a giant troll coming behind Kalmar.
“Watch out!!!” she screamed, as she thrust her hands in front of her, separating her fingers, and suddenly coming forth from her hands was a blast of pinkish purple light. It was so strong that it knocked the entire troll who was the size of about Castle Rysen down to the ground. Kalmar's face returned to the way it had been when she first arrived, as he asked with amazement, “What was that??”
She looked from his face to her hands and continued to look at her hands and then looked up at him again and said, “Oh, right, we elves actually have a power, and we just lost.….you know what, I'll tell you the rest after.” she said. Then she called up to all the people in the Sky Ship and told them to come down. Next thing they noticed, Princess Gracie was flying in the sky on a light purple dragon which had dark purple and light blue crystallized wings!
“They're all here, every one of them!” Leeli exclaimed, as she looked at all the people that they had seen and people that they were familiar with like Mayor Blaggus.
“Mayor Blaggus!” Kalmar exclaimed, as he saw him get out of the ship.
"That's right, King Kalmar Wingfeather.” he said, with the new sense of ownership now that he found his queen. But they couldn't dwell on this newfound happiness of having everyone who they've known and everyone who they've met come and help them on this crazy mess of an adventure. They had to focus on the task at stake, defeating Queen Opal once and for all.
Wow. That was one good fighting scene.
