The Maiden of Anniera (part 1) Spoilers!!

hi! so i've never written a fanfic before so here i go!

Arianna sighed. The sea crashed into the sand at her feet and the sea breeze swept her golden curls to one side. Her deep blue eyes showed disappointment. She had been hoping Rubiwen, or Ruby as Ari called her, would show up but she could never trust the young sea dragon. Ruby was still a sea dragon because her wings had not yet grown to their full length and she wasn't able to fly yet.

Suddenly, a spout of water erupted from the sea and Ari grinned. She recognized Ruby's greeting and dashed into the water to greet her friend. Ari's mother Leeli, Song Maiden of Anniera, had formed a closed bond with Hulwen, Ruby's mother, and their frienship passed down to their daughters.

As Ari splashed into the sea, Ruby surfaced and swam towards her.

"Ruby!" Ari cried as they met. Ari tried to jump onto Ruby's back, but the dragon's scales were too slick for her to hold onto and she fell into the water. Ari started to panick, and started thrashing around, but then she felt Ruby swim underneath her. Ari forced herself to calm down and stay still, as Ruby carried her to the surface. Ari gasped for air when they came up, and Ruby took her to the shore where she gently laid her friend down on the sand.

"Well, that's a fine way for a princess of Anniera to say hello," Ruby teased. Ruby was one the few dragons who could speak to any human. She was a Dracomeer.

"I'm not a princess!" Ari protested, coughing up water."I'm royalty, but I'm not a princess."

"Well then, what are you?" Ruby asked amused.

"I have no idea," Ari replied, shaking her head. Ruby laughed*. They fell silent for a moment, savoring the warmth of the setting sun.

Ari sat up. "Why were you late?"

Ruby's eyes twinkled with mischief. "I was practicing."

Practicing what? Ari asked, curious.

Ruby's eyes danced even more."Flying."

Ari jumped to her feet in surprise. "You can fly now?"

Ruby laughed again."Hop on and I'll show you."

"You better be dry this time." Ari warned and climbed onto her friend's back. Then Ruby took off flying into the setting sun and the restored Castle Rysen, Ari's home.

*A dragon's laugh is a very pleasant thing to listen to indeed.
