“The Florid Sword? Who’s that?”
“It’s you!”
“Me? I’m a farmer! I’m not the Flying Sword.”
“Your right! Your the Florid Sword. I was the Flying Sword. It’s time for a new legend.”
Gammon looked at Yona. She looked at him. Silence. After a while, Gammon spoke.
“I can’t.” He hardened his heart. He set his teeth. “I can’t leave Yona and Saphira. I’ve got something I can’t leave behind.”
“Not everyone has that anymore! Theirs has been ripped away from them!” Rillton argued.
“That’s why, I need to stay and make sure that doesn’t happen. I’m NOT leaving my family. THAT IS THAT!” His face had turned red, his hair was askew and his voice rose so much that Saphira woke up and called for her mother.
Rillton sighed. “Gammon, you won’t have to leave your family. They’ll be taken.” With that, he pick himself up, and exited the house.
A week past and life was back to normal. Almost.
Gammon would act strangely now and then. He would sit by the fire at night pondering.
Saphira sensed something was wrong.
“Daddy? What’s wrong?” She asked one night as he was tucking her in.
“Nothing Saphira.”
She gave him a suspecting look.
“I heard you and Rillton arguing.”
She reached up and held his face in her hands. She looked into his eyes. “Aerwiar needs you Daddy.”
Tears came into Gammons eyes.
“No they don’t princess.” he drew in a large breath. “You need me. You and your mom.” With that, he went to her bedroom door, and closed it gently.
