I was on Google Docs looking for my homework when I came across my entry to the THAGS contest from... I think June? Whenever the writing one was. Anyway I thought I'd post it cause why not. I tried to mimic the writing style of Stawburn, the author of The Wide Terrain based on the brief excerpt we have towards the beginning of OtEotDSoD. Alright here it is:
From Stawburn’s “The Wide Terrain”
The Mighty River Blapp was no mightier than any other river I’ve ever seen. So I’m not sure where it got its name, unless maybe it’s because of the feeling you get when you’re looking at it. You feel like you are the smallest and most insignificant creature in Aerwiar. You also feel like it could sweep you up and carry you to your doom as easily as one might sweep up a thwap and carry it to their Dark Sea of Darknessy doom. It could get its name from the feeling that any manner of creature could jump up and stab you at any moment if you get too close. (By any manner of creature I mean daggerfish of course.) When you get too close, the river roars all the louder, as if to make sure you’re aware that it is mightier than you. If you stare at it too long, you get to feeling like you should just jump in and let it sweep you away, because you are weak compared to it. When you glance at it, you’ll see daggerfish jump up and wiggle their daggery snouts (do fish have snouts?) at you, as if daring you to get closer and meet your doom. Then you’re back to feeling like the smallest and most insignificant creature in Aerwiar. Come to think of it, The Mighty River Blapp was definitely mightier than other rivers.
Oh I love this!!! It sounds canonical!!!
