A short story.

"Janner!" Kalmer called.

Janner looked up from his book. "Yes?"

Kal laughed. "Do you know where Sara is?"

Janner looked confused. "No. Why would I know?"

Kal snickered. "Because you are alwaaaayys together."

Janner rolled his eyes. "I think she said she was going to the kitchen."

Kalmer smiled. "Ok, thank you."

Kal ran as fast as he could (which is pretty fast) and arrived at the castle kitchen in no time. He found Sara and Leeli washing some dishes.

"Ok, so I need ideas for Janner's birthday." Kal announced.

Leeli looked at him. "Get him books. He always wants books."

Sara turned around. "Well, he was telling me the other day that he wanted a horse."

Kal frowned. "I don't have enough money for a horse."

Leeli smiled. "I bet all of us combined do!"

"Hmm," Kal started. "That's not a bad idea. How much money do you two have?"

"I've got 50." Leeli stated.

"I've got 200." Sara said, surprising the siblings.

"Well, I've got 45, and an average horse costs 150, so we have plenty of money. How about we split it, 50 each?" Kal asked.

"But you said you only have 45 Kal." Sara pointed out.

"Well, I'll cover his 5." Leeli smiled.

"Great, it's settled. Janner is getting a horse for his birthday!" Kal said cheerfully.

The three teenagers went back to their chores. Later that day, Janner and Sara went into town, and Sara kept a good eye out for any horses for sale. After they had gotten all of the groceries from the market, and arrived home, Sara went to see Kalmer.

"They didn't have any horses, and his birthday is tomorrow." She said sadly.

Leeli walked into the room. "That's too bad." She said.

"And all we were trying to do is get him a good present." Kal said.

"The only present I need is you three here with me." Janner walked into the room.

"Hey eavesdropping were you?" Leeli asked.

"No, but I noticed something was up, so I decided to, well eavesdrop." Janner laughed. "You guys didn't have to go to such lengths to get me something. All I need is you three here." Janner hugged each of them in turn.

He ended up having a fine birthday with them, wishing every birthday could end up like that one.
