Hali continued to work for Blagden, gaining more and more of his trust. They eventually allowed her to always keep her weapon on her. The crew seemed to be quite comfortable with her now. Everything seemed to be going how she wanted it to. She decided to begin carrying out her main plan. But she hadn’t seen Casimir, Kian, Amara and Avalee in almost two months, would they still trust her? She had never given them any reason to. All she could do was hope they would trust her just enough. So one day, she went to talk to Blagden. Blagden was at his desk looking over a map when Hali entered.
“Ah, Hali, what do you need?” He said when he saw her approaching
“My sword needs fixin’. Chipped it good here, see?” Hali said casually, pointing to a large chip in the middle of the blade. Blagden took the blade and inspected it closely.
“Aye, chipped it good, you did. I’ll have one of them prisoners repair it.” He said tossing the sword aside. “Anything else?” he said gruffly.
“No, just that.” Said Hali as she turned to leave. Blagden noticed she seemed anxious to leave.
“Wait.” he commanded, stopping Hali in her tracks and causing her heart to beat faster. She turned to face him again.
“Yes?” She said, keeping a cool composure.
“You seem anxious.” He said suspiciously.
“Not anxious, just busy is all. Got a lota things to do round this ship.” She answered. He stared at her a moment before replying.
“Right then, get to it.” He said with a wave of his hand. Hali nodded and hurried away. Her heart began beating regularly again. Blagden was way to observant.
“Well, there’s no going back now.” She thought to herself.
Soon, Hali’s sword, along with a few other things in need of repair, was taken to the prisoners to be fixed. They set to work immediately, for if they didn’t punishment was sure to follow.
Kian sighed as he picked up a bent sword and set to work hammering it back into shape.
“I wonder how they mess these swords up so fast.” Said Kian. “I’m positive that I fixed this same one last week.”
“Who knows.” Said Amara as she weaved a basket.
Just then, Avalee found Hali’s sword beneath the pile. She picked it up.
“I wonder what Hali’s doing.” She said as she looked at the weapon.
“Probably up there living her best life, forgetting all about us.” Said Kian with a sneer.
“She hasn’t forgotten us!” Protested Avalee.
“She’s has, Ava, it’s been like two months.” Said Amara sadly.
“No she hasn’t! I’m telling you, she told me she has a plan. I trust her.” Replied Avalee.
“Do you even have a reason to trust her?” Said Kian in an aggravated tone.
She was silent a moment, then she spoke.
“No. I don’t. But I asked the Maker for guidance and He put in in my heart to trust her. So I do” Said Avalee firmly.
No one spoke. Then suddenly, the silence was broken by Casimir.
“I agree with you Ava.” He smiled at her
She smiled back. “Thank you.”
Kian and Amara exchanged glances.
“If the Maker put that in your heart, then I have nothing else to say.” Said Kian, feeling a little sorry. Amara said nothing, but she nodded in agreement with Kian. They soon went back to their jobs, with little to say to say to each other. Avalee looked at Hali’s sword. She noticed that the leather handle was loose.
“That’s weird, it shouldn’t be falling off this soon. I guess I’ll have to make a new handle.” She thought. She began to take the leather off when something caught her eye. Hidden beneath the leather straps, there was a small, folded piece of paper
