Chapter 42 We're Not In Aerwiar anymore
Janner opened his eyes to see soft green grass and that they were all on their knees. He stood up, yawned and stretched his arms and so did everyone else. Janner looked up and saw that they were in a forest. There were trees, taller trees than anything he'd ever seen. There was a bright blue sky and the clouds looked like they were perfectly drawn from a picture book. He wondered where they could be.
“Where are we?” Kalmar asked, sleepily,
“I have no idea.” Janner responded and yawned again which made everyone else yawn, of course.
Then coming from the swirling portal was none other than Queen Opal. She landed somehow on her feet and didn't seem to be sleepy like the rest of them. Janner turned to Opal and asked “Where are we?” with another yawn.
“We are in the Realm Between Worlds. Different people from different worlds call it different things but that's what I know it as. This realm connects all worlds, galaxies, and universes together. You see, all of these puddles lead to different worlds.” She said, pointing at the puddles on the ground which until now, Janner hadn't noticed they were there at all.
“Why are we so sleepy?” Leeli asked.
“Because that is what the Realm Between Worlds does to you.” She replied.
“Then may I ask why you are not sleepy?” Podo asked suspiciously.
“Because I'm a fairy, remember? You are all humans, it doesn't have the same effect on non-humans as it does with humans.” She said, rolling her eyes as she scanned each puddle for something.
“What are you looking for?” Janner asked.
Opal rolled her eyes again, as she said, “The puddle to Milky Way was marked with an X, for long ago two humans just like you kids found this realm and they messed about in some of the puddles…I don't know. I didn't really read into that one very much but they marked their homeland with an X and that land is Milky Way.” Opal explained. “Ah ha!!”
she exclaimed, as she found the puddle marked with an X.
“Are you sure that is the one?” Nia asked, she had been rather quiet for a while, she didn't like the idea (and I'm not sure who would) of them jumping into a random puddle which could lead into any world, galaxy, or universe and it could possibly be the wrong one.
“Yeah, you said you didn't read that story very well, maybe it's not an X, maybe it's like a Y. Or something.” Kalmar said unhelpfully.
“I'm sure! Just because I didn't read the story about the two children who found this Realm Between Worlds and went into some dark world where there's a red sun and it was pretty much destroyed by some other queen doesn't mean that I don't know the portal to Milky Way!” Opal snapped; they could surmise that she knew what she was doing even though they weren't entirely sure.
And they followed her through the portal. She was the first one to go through the portal, unlike the last time, and the Wingfeathers went second. This time it was a little different than the last, what they saw was a bit different. It was still planets, just different planets. There was a red one, a blue one, and there was sort of a tannish one with rings. There was also a tiny one and there was a bluish one that was sort of on its side and had rings. And there were a whole bunch of other strange things like asteroids and hundreds and thousands of stars including shooting stars. There was a bright sun brighter and bigger than the one that they have in Aerwiar. But the most curious thing was a blue and green planet that had white swirly wisps all around it, and they were heading straight for it!
Out of everything Janner had seen in the past 2 years of this crazy messed up life or for that matter, in all of his life, he had never seen something so strange as what he saw next. For the moment that he opened his eyes, he saw something that made his jaw drop. Actually, it made all of the Wingfeathers’ jaws drop, though Opal seemed unimpressed.
There were about 100 big, huge, tall buildings all pushed together in rows and it looked like there were some shops on the bottoms of the buildings. And there were pavements that lined the streets, and these strange huge metal-looking moving carts; they were incredibly loud. Hundreds of people moved through the streets. They came in and out of the doors and from all of the buildings. There were bright lights. and lining the streets as well were metal poles with enormously bright lights at the top. And it looked like the streets went on for as long as they could see.
“I don't think we're in Aerwiar anymore!” Kalmar said, speechless.
“Where in the deep are we?” Podo asked, deeply disturbed by the metal moving objects that crossed the street. He didn't like the look of the big one with sort of a cone like thing on the back that had coming out of it ginormous puffs of smoke.
“We are in Milky Way!” Opal said, happily, to them.
“But what is Milky Way!?” Nia asked, also disturbed by the metal moving things with puffs of smoke out the back that were crossing the street.
“Milky Way is a much larger and more advanced world than Aerwiar. They have technology and things that we don't have, specifically a type of element that is exclusive to only Milky Way. That is why we are here, for that element. So I am going to get it and you are not going to follow me because you will just try to stop me. I honestly don't care what you do as long as you don't follow me!” Opal said harshly, as she was about to cross the street.
But Kalmar stopped her. “Are you seriously going to go out into this strange, strange world where everyone is dressed in boring colors and very flat outfits looking like that?” he asked, suspicious of the fact that Opal was wearing a dark purple long dress, a black cape, purple high heels, and she looked like a villain (which she was).
“Oh you simpleton, don't you think I've already thought of that?” she harshly asked, as she waved her hands over herself. Suddenly her clothes changed to a dark purple, white-striped long sleeve off the shoulder top, with black, ripped jeans and black sneakers with purple and blue galaxy soles. Her long black and plum hair was put up in a messy bun with two pieces sticking out of it, perfectly framing her face. Pretty much the only thing that they recognized about her was her same cold but royal face.
“Now don't follow me!” she said, as she waited for a little light that was on this pole on the street to turn to a yellow color and she crossed the street (which had white stripes on it) to the other side.
“So what do we do now?” Sara asked, which was something they all were wondering.
“In the words of Morph the Merf ‘I'm not actually sure.’ ” Oskar admitted, scared at the strange, wacky world that was in front of them.
“I guess we should start with crossing the street.” Nia suggested, so that is what they did.
They waited, like Opal had, till the little bright light turned to a yellow color. When it did, all of the metal moving things stopped moving around in the street.
“I think they're waiting for us.” Sara observed, and then something so startling, it made her fall over, happened. The moving things made a loud beeping sound.
“What was that?” Artham asked.
“I don't know but I think they're telling us to move!” Sara said,
They ran across the white stripes on the street as more and more of the metal moving things honked at them. When they got to the other side, they started to notice that the people looked at them very strangely.
“Why are they looking at us like that?” Leeli asked.
“Well, we kind of stand out..” Janner said, noticing the fact that everyone around them was wearing very flat, plain outfits and the Wingfeathers were wearing quite detailed, colorful outfits. Also, the fact that Artham had wings and claws and Esben looked like he had been caught in a fight with a Toothy Cow and the Toothy Cow had won. But he also looked like he was a king. And Leeli had a lame leg and a crutch which Janner noticed that there were some people on the street like this, except they were sitting in a sort of a chair-like thing with wheels. He wondered if he could get one of those for his sister.
“So what do we do?” Kalmar asked.
“I guess we just walk and explore. it doesn't really seem like there's a ruler of this place but we have only been here for less than 10 minutes.” Janner said. That is what they did: they walked on the sidewalk and looked at the strange, tall buildings that were nothing like what they had ever seen before in their own world. The people wore lots of different colors but they saw most of them wear white and black colors. They were very sleek and didn't have much detail on the outside but somehow each one was a bit different. Janner noticed that all of the buildings on the bottom row were all shops and all of the buildings on the top row were homes.
“So do we go in them? The stores I mean.” Leeli asked.
“Yes, but I don't think we have the right money, Leeli. I doubt that they would have the same money as us due to the fact that everything here is so different and pretty much the opposite of our world.” Sara said as she looked at Leeli. They continued to walk across the sidewalk until they came to a little place with some benches. The benches were a green color and they were made out of metal. The backboard had beautiful ornament designs of flowers. This place was out of the way of all the mobs of people, so they thought it would be a nice place to decide what to do next.
I have a feeling they're on Earth...
