Chapter 1 The First Well
“So are you coming?” Kalmar asked Nia again with his arm stretched out to her. Nia looked from him to Leeli to Sara then back to Kalmar. She smiled and said, “Yes, yes of course.” Kalmar helped her up onto the dragon and they all took off to the Blackwood Forest.
However Artham got stuck flying with Oskar who was holding on painfully tight for fear of falling off. While Artham was desperately trying to navigate them using an old map he found of the Blackwood, ferocious winds blew his mop of gray hair in his face.
Leeli and Sara rode together on Hullwen, although they didn't talk much. They were mostly just thinking about the day before.
Kalmar and Nia rode on a beautiful white and gold dragon with a blue sapphire tail.
Nia was thinking everything at once like what if the well doesn't work? Or what if I never see Janner again? Or What if we can't even find the well? She took a deep breath and just prayed to The Maker about all these things.
No one spoke, there was not a sound except for the rush of the winds blowing. Until Nia spoke up and asked, “Why did I hear footsteps last night?” No one answered. Finally Leeli spoke up.
“Well…. I couldn't sleep very well so I got up and walked to the shore and sung to the dragons.”
“So that’s why I heard singing!” Kalmar exclaimed.
“Wait, why were you up?” Artham asked. Kalmar made a (why did I just say that face) and answered.
“ I couldn't sleep either so I grabbed my sketchbook and found a good tree to sketch, that's when I heard Leeli singing,” he said.
Then suddenly Artham spotted the First Well. “It's here!” he said in awe as the dragons swooped down to the spot. They got off their dragons (which Oskar was extremely happy about).
Artham untied Janner’s body from the dragon. And carried him to the well. They all walked with him into the Blackwood forest.
Then they found it, The First Well. It was a little pool of bright blue still water which was perfectly framed by two tall trees. In the middle of the well was a stone stable covered in moss and two little pink flowers.
Artham laid Janner’s body on the stone table and stood up.
“So what do we do now?” Leeli asked as they all walked a little deeper into the forest.
“Now we pray,” Artham said. So they all gathered around and held hands and prayed to The Maker That the well would work.
A few minutes later a little purple butterfly landed on Leeli’s nose causing her to sneeze, when she did her eyes opened and she saw something unbelievable, swirling in the center of them was massive golden curls of magic! It was swirling all around them growing more golden by the second. She closed her eyes again and continued to pray to The Maker.
But the magic only got stronger. Back at the well the same golden magic swirled furiously around Janner’s body, the light grew stronger and swirled more quickly around the Wingfeathers until it grew so strong that all you could see was white. Suddenly a massive explosion from the magic knocked them all out leaving them unconscious.
Chapter 2 The Maker’s message
…Back in Anniera. Arundelle was watching over the castle while the Wingfeathers were gone, when she heard a massive crumbling sound coming from the castle. She and all the Annierans rushed over to see what happened. It was the Fane of Fire. The door was cracked in two and spilling out from the door was a massive, glowing, golden light.
“I don't believe it.” Arundelle said, amazed as she put her hands over her mouth.
Then suddenly a voice like no other, one so kind and royal that they knew exactly who it was, spoke and said, “Annierans do not be afraid for the boy-prince of Anniera is alive.”
“It worked!” Arundelle said in disbelief!
“What worked?” asked one of the villagers whose name was Isla.
“The First Well,” Arundelle said.
“But why did the door break?” another asked.
Then the voice coming from The Fane of Fire spoke again, “Because the prophecy was fulfilled. The boy paid the price of healing but that’s not all to it. It was prophesied that when the price of healing was fulfilled the doors to the Fane of Fire would crack in two, allowing everyone, even fangs to enter. And that the one who I chose to pay that price would rise again. Now go, tell everyone this message, even your enemies, family, friends, and strangers. And always remember I’m with you no matter where you go.”
When finished, the golden magic stopped swirling and disappeared.
“They are ok!” Arundelle exclaimed dreamily.
“Yea, but what's all this about prophecies?” someone asked.
“In the first books it was said that a great darkness would come over Aerwiar and The Maker would choose someone to pay the price of healing, but I had almost forgotten that the chosen one would not only pay the price but rise again as well.” Arundelle explained.
“So…the chosen one is Janner right?” a little 5-year old Annieran girl asked. “Yes, Sage, Janner’s the chosen one.” Arundelle said, shaking her head.
They were all unconscious, no one could hear or see a thing, no one moved; it was complete silence. Then suddenly Kalmar and Leeli heard something, a voice so kind and royal that at the sound of His voice they knew that it was The Maker. The voice rang out in their minds saying, “Jewels of Anniera, congratulations on defeating Gnag the Nameless. You three were very brave. What your brother did resembled something that I once did a long time ago in a different world. As for your bravery, trust and faithfulness, I reward you with a great gift. And remember no matter what, I'm here for you. Now rise young ones!”
At this Kalmar and Leeli opened their eyes and sat up. Leeli rubbed
her eyes while the others were waking up. “What happened?” Nia asked, worried. “In the mighty words of Sir Flargon Yorgon The Eighth “Maybe an earthquake?” replied Oskar.
“I had the craziest dream. '' said Leeli.
“Me too!” Kalmar said.
“It was The Maker talking to me.” Leeli said
“Me too!” Kalmar said.
“He said congrats on defeating Gnag.”
“And that we were very brave.” finished Leeli.
“Wait! You two had the same dream?” Nia asked, confused.
“It seems like it,” Kalmar said. “What else happened?” asked Sara curiously (who had been pretty quiet ever since she arrived at Castle Rysen). “Well, He said…'' started Kalmar when a familiar voice coming from the trees behind them spoke.
“He said that what I did resembled something He once did in a different world.” At each word the familiar voice came closer into the light. “As for your bravery, trust, and faithfulness, I reward you with a great gift.” With this the familiar voice came completely into the light. The sight of him brought tears to all the Wingfeathers. “And always remember no matter what, I’m with you. Now rise young ones!” finished the voice.
When he was finished they all shouted,“JANNER!!” and gave him a giant bear hug. When they let go, Kalmar lightly punched him on the shoulder and said, “Don't ever do that to me again”... paused and added,
“King's orders.”
“Ok, and I'll try not to,” he said smiling.
Nia hugged him again and said, “I missed you with all my heart.”
“I missed you too,” said Janner.
Chapter 3 Meeting an Old Friend
Through these few moments Sara felt really awkward. She was feeling so many emotions and she had no idea what to say to Janner. The last time the two had seen each other was at The Fork Factory. She was desperately trying to think of something to say, when she noticed that the rest of the Wingfeathers had sort of stepped to the side revealing her to Janner.
When she saw him she blushed and said, “Hi Janner. '' in a small sweet voice as she kicked a small pebble on the ground and toyed with a strand of hair that was a little too small to fit in her curly ponytail. “Sara?” Janner said in wonder, and began to turn red in the face.
While this was going on Kalmar whispered to Leeli, “$5 this all goes south right now.” Leeli whispered back, “Well, I bet you $5 something wonderful will happen.” she said in a dreamy voice while crossing her arms. “Deal!” said Kalmar and they shook on it.
“I....so ... .um…well..” Janner stuttered trying to say something yet he couldn't seem to say anything. Sara was trying to find something to say when she did something that in the moment she didn't even know she was doing. She stepped closer to Janner and kissed him on the cheek. Janner’s eyes were wide and his face turned as red as a tomato and so did Sara’s.
It took everything out of Kalmar and Leeli not to burst into laughter at the sight of Janner's wide-eyed red-faced hilarious expression. “I ....Uhhhh…..” he managed to say. She didn't say anything, just stared at the ground in absolute shock that she had just gone up and done that.
There was an extremely awkward silence that followed this. Then Artham heard something, a tapping noise like the sound of a foot and a wooden peg. “Shhhhhh!” He said even though no one was talking, Kalmar put his hand on Rudric’s sword and waited. Janner, too stunned to do anything, just stood there worried and searched for his sword, as the sound grew louder.
That bit about the door spitting in two is so excellent, mixes Christian and Narnian elements as to make it very believable. Great job!
Also, welcome to TTH, I see you're a new Thwapper 😁
*Me, sitting here, wondering how they got American currency in Aerwiar*
Well I suppose there's that one Wingfeather tale...
This is really really good! Or as Leeli and Thorn would put it, "Real good.". Also, welcome!
