Chapter 9 A whole new world
They all went to bed late that night. The children all woke up to the smell of hogpig bacon and blueberry muffles. They all sat around the table and thanked The Maker for their breakfast. Surprisingly, Janner and Sara actually sat next to each other at the table which caused Kalmar and Leeli to smile.
After they put the dishes away, Kalmar pulled Janner aside and asked, “Soooo… how did last night go?” He said, trying to hold back laughter. Janner sighed and said in a general tone “It was fine” and then walked away.
“What's that supposed to mean?" Kalmar said naggingly.
“And just how do you know about what happened last night?” Janner asked, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow.
“I..uh…Coming mama!” Kalmar said nervously and ran in the direction of his room.
Nia thought the children should work on their T.H.A.G.S in order to pass the time. Sara didn't know which of the T.H.A.G.S to pick. Leeli suggested she should try all of them, so Sara started out with word first, then form, then song. She thought she should go in order.
A few hours later Artham shouted “Land ahead!” Everyone ran up to the deck, the kids stopped short when they saw the land, it was beautiful. It was lush and green with pink, purple, and orange leaves covering the brown hardy trees and surrounded by a golden glittering beach. The site was breathtaking.
When they docked at the shore they stepped out onto the soft golden sand. Leeli noticed that there were hundreds of sapphire looking crystals scattered around the beach. They were in all sorts of colors but most of them were pink and blue.
“Hey guys, I think I found a path!” Kalmar said, and indeed it was a path. It was lined with the same blue and pink shiny sapphires; they all decided to follow the path that led to a type of forest-like place. They were all looking around, enjoying the scenery except for Janner; he was looking at something ahead of them.
“What in all of the Shining Isle of Anniera is that?” He asked, pointing at a large wall-like thing with a large brown door in the middle; it looked like it was made entirely out of trees. At the top of this wall-like thing was a burst of pink, purple, and orange crunchy leaves that hung over the top of the wall.
“Where are we?” asked Kalmar in wonder. Kalmar walked over to the door and knocked once, twice, three times. On the third knock they heard a young girl's voice from the other side of the wall saying,
“Just a minute!''
They heard a lot of clicking and latching noises, then the door opened. Standing in the doorway was a girl, she was about Kalmar's age, with light purple ombre hair that faded to white, pulled back into a high ponytail with her fluffy bangs perfectly framing her face, and pointy ears.
She happily said, “Hi! My name is Rose and welcome to the Emerald Forest!”
The Wingfeathers were amazed at the inside of the wall; it was the most beautiful thing they've ever seen. It was a forest with gold, pink, purple, and orange leaves. Red and white speckled mushrooms dotted the ground like polka-dots, while crystals grew from everywhere you could think of, even the treetops. It was an entire village! And all the people had pointy ears. There were little purple squirrels and Janner even thought he saw a thwaperfly. All the people looked so kind and they all had bright colored hair. The sky was a beautiful royal blue color and the ground looked as soft as a plump pillow.
Everyone was amazed at the beautiful world, they were so distracted by the scenery that they didn't notice that Kalmar was staring at something else that he thought was even more beautiful than the scenery.
“Oh!...” Rose said, as an old man with a long, white beard, wearing a long, blue robe, and a pointy blue hat that was dotted with little white stars, walked up to her.
“This is Mr. Stars, the wizard!” she said
“Why hello” Mr. Stars said. He turned to Rose and asked, “Rose, have you asked them what their names are yet?”
“Oh! Sorry. We don't get many visitors around here so I'm new to this." She said honestly.
“It's okay,” said Nia. Janner nudged Kalmar on the shoulder to introduce them.
“Why me?” Kalmar whispered.
“Because you're the king of Anniera, you have to.” Janner whispered back.
”Fine…" "Hi! We're the Wingfeathers, this is my mother, Nia, my Uncle Artham, my grandfather, Podo, my sister, Leeli, our family friend, Mr. Reeteep, my brother, Janner and his…uh”, he paused when he got to Sara. Then he turned back to them and asked,“What are you two?”
They both blushed and quickly said “friends!” Under his breath Kalmar said, “Yea right!” but no one seemed to hear him say this.
He continued, “His friend Sara, and I'm King Kalmar Wingfeather of Anniera.” He said this in a voice that Leeli could only describe as Kalmar’s trying to impress a girl voice. She had only heard him use that voice once a few days ago to the girl who was now known as Galya.
At this Leeli snorted and started to laugh like crazy, turning red. Kalmar whispered, “Leeli!! stop!!”
Then Mr. Stars said, “Welcome Wingfeathers! You all can stay here in the Emerald Forest if you'd like, there's a wonderful place that you can all stay at called the Great Pixie Tree. It's just a little farther down this way,” he said pointing north.
“Thank you very much," Nia said.
Chapter 10 The Great Pixie Tree
They walked for a little while following Mr. Stars and then they came to a ginormous brown tree. The top of the tree was a beautiful emerald green color and surrounding the base of the tree was bright green emeralds. On the tree was a brown door. The door had gold carvings of what looks like a pair of wings on it.
“Welcome to the Great pixie tree!” Mr. Stars said with a smile. He opened the door, revealing the inside. All the Wingfeathers looked in awe because the inside was beautiful. The walls were covered with a mosaic of wooden round logs and the lights that were hung glowed a beautiful orange glow above the tables that were filled with delicious looking treats. However, what really caught their eyes was a giant hourglass looking beam right in the middle of the room. Inside the hourglass-like object was what looked like a golden, glittery, dust substance. Something about it seemed magical.
Rose smiled and laughed a little at the Wingfeathers’ expressions. She walked in and said, "So are you just going to stand out there? Or do you want to come in?” They all snapped out of their dazes and walked in. Janner noticed that on either side of the room was a golden spiral staircase that made the room seem like it was from a fantasy book.
“Wow! you are too kind.” Nia said thankfully to Mr Stars.
“You all are quite welcome.” he replied.
Then he noticed Leeli going into a little room off to the side where on the door was a little carving of a pair of wings with a star in the middle. He quickly rushed across the room to block her from entering the room and he yelled loudly, “DO NOT GO IN THERE!.. I mean please do not enter, this is my private office.” Leeli's face looked like a sad pathetic puppy. She did not like getting yelled at, especially by someone she didn't even know.
“Hey, don't yell at my sister!” Janner taking a step closer to Mr. Stars.
“Janner..” Nia said, giving him a look.
“We're sorry we have just had a long couple of days.” Nia said, taking Leeli behind her.
In an annoyed tone, Mr. Stars said “It's fine” and walked over to Rose, and said “Maybe they'd like to explore the rest of the Emerald Forest.”
“That's a great idea!” Rose said and turned to the Wingfeathers, continuing, “I have to go back to school now but I'm sure I can find another elf to show you around!”
“Oh that's why they all have pointy ears, they're elves!” Janner said.
“Yeah, we're all elves, it's an Elven Village actually. I would tell you more about the history of the Emerald Kingdom, but like I said I have to go back to school.” Rose explained.
“I would love to see the Emerald Forest," Nia said. Artham, who had been relatively quiet ever since they arrived, noticed that Kalmar looked like he did not want to go.
“Kal, What's wrong?” He asked Kalmar, who looked up at him and said “Nothing, I just want to sketch instead. This place is so beautiful I want to remember it forever! Can I sketch in the forest for a little while?”
At first, Nia said “Absolutely not!", but Podo convinced her to let him go. Reluctantly, she said, “Fine, but not too far into the forest.”
“Thank you so much!” Kalmar replied as he hugged her. He quickly dug through his pack and found his sketchbook and pencils and waited patiently for the rest of them to go.
When they all left, standing outside the door, was a 16 year old girl with electric blue hair that faded to navy and that was swept to her right side covering one of her eyes. She wore pink heart sunglasses, a wavy little light blue dress and a blue braided necklace. She was chewing a big piece of pink bubblegum.
When she saw the Wingfeathers she said, “Hi! My name is Nola. I can show you the village, if you would like.”
“Thank you, Nola,” Nia said kindly as she turned to Kalmar and said,
“Be careful, okay.”
“I will!” he said, running towards the forest.
“Can we go now?” Janner asked a bit impatiently, wanting to catalog every single new creature for his new updated Creaturepedia.
“Yes, we can go now.” Nia said and they followed Nola through the Emerald Forest.
Chapter 11 A Dark Castle and a New Friend
.. Just a little outside of Aerwiar, there was a little island. There was not much on it except for a castle. A tall, black and purple, cold and hard looking, stone castle.
Inside the throne room of this dark castle stood a woman; she was wearing a long purple dress that went up to her neck and a dark, black cape. Her hair was paper straight, and black as night but the tips were the color of plums and her lips were redder than cherries. She stood with her back facing the door, watching the rain trickle down the window sill.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door to the throne room. Harshly, the woman said, “Come in!” A younger woman entered the room; her hair was a dark blue color that was cut jagged at neck's length. She wore a dark black dress with navy trim and a little black necklace with a small white pearl at the center.
“Your majesty, I bring you news…the Wingfeathers have left Aerwiar, and are now in the Emerald forest.”
“What!” the woman in the purple dress exclaimed and whipped around angrily. A moment later blasts of purple, blue and green fire burst out of the woman's hands as she turned around. And suddenly, the flame was gone and she turned back to watching the rain. She then emotionally declared, “Perfect… With Gnag the Nameless out of the way and the Wingfeathers already outside of Aerwiar, my plan to get revenge is much more simple..”
“Ragana, send the shifters.”
“Yes of course, your majesty,” said the younger woman whose name was Ragana.
“I will not rest until I have my revenge on the Wingfeathers!” the woman said, laughing an evil laugh.
Kalmar was walking through the forest looking for a place to sketch, and noticed a little white and gray owl which was staring at him quite intensely. “Why are you doing that?” He said to the owl, at this the owl cocked its head to the side and seemed to stare harder.
“You're creeping me out!” said Kalmar, “...Wait, why am I talking to an owl?”, Kalmar asked, shaking his head. Then he saw a little hill-like knoll on the edge of a cliff that looked like the perfect place to draw.
He walked over to it and sat down. The view was breathtaking! There was a rushing, clear blue river flowing beneath the cliff. All of the tree tops were a bright emerald color. And hidden by the clouds was a faint colorful rainbow that lit up the sky. He could see that below there were gambloats, flabbits, limberwolves and even squeebins! and many more creatures that he had never seen before. A cool breeze tousled his hair as he grabbed his sketchbook and took a pencil out of his bag, and then began to draw everything that he saw.
A few minutes later there was a rustling sound coming from the path where he had come from. He put his sketchbook and pencil to the side on a little rock next to him. He stood up and put his hand on Rudric’s sword which he remembered that he still hadn't returned to Janner, and said,
“Show yourself!'' A moment later an Elven girl with a purple and white ponytail and fluffy bangs walked out from the path. It was Rose.
“Oh, Rose.. sorry I thought you were some sort of fang or something.”
“What’s a fang?’” she asked.
“Wait, you have never seen a fang?” he asked, shocked.
“no…should I have?” she asked,
“Really, you've never seen one? It's a lizard-like, or wolf-like creature?” he physically could not grasp the concept that she had never seen a fang before.
“Nope, never," she said, confused. She noticed that Kalmar had a sad look on his face. She sat next to him on the hill and asked, “Did one hurt you or something?
“You could say that.”, he said. “Anyways, what are you doing here, I thought you had school?” he asked.
“I'm homeschooled and I have art class every other day so I love to come to the forest and draw everything I see. This is actually my favorite spot.” she declared.
“Wait, you’re homeschooled? Me too, well sort of anyways I do something called T.H.A.G.S it stands for three honored and great subjects.” he said, smiling.
“Oh that's cool. I do something like that in the fall, but since it's summer, I can choose certain subjects that I would like to do. So I usually choose art because I love it.” Rose said.
“Wait.. it's summer here?” Kalmar asked.
“Yeah.. .,“ she said, confused.
“Where I come from, it's Fall.”, he responded.
“Oh, I love the Fall, the Emerald Forest looks breathtaking in the Fall.” she said and continued, wistfully, “All the trees are a golden color, and the ground is the color of embers. All the animals are just the kindest at that time and there is a cool autumn breeze and the leaves fall to the ground. I love to come out here and draw it all!” Rose said dreamily.
“Wait, you like art too?” Kalmar asked.
“Yeah! I love it. I can spend hours drawing.” Rose said. Rose opened her sketchbook and flipped through it. “I've drawn every place in all of the Emerald Kingdom” she explained.
“Wow, you are really good!” he said.
“Thanks, can I see yours?” she asked.
“Sure,” he said and opened his book and flipped through it.
"Wait, what's that one?” she asked, pointing at one of the maps, “Oh that, it's Aerwiar, it's where I live.” he said.
“Wow! you live there?” she asked curiously.
“Yeah. Well technically, I live at Anniera but I've sort of lived all over Aerwiar, it's a really long story.” Kalmar said.
Then he told her all about how they were once the Igibys and lived in Glippwood, but when they found out that they were the lost Jewels of Anniera, they had to flee to the Ice Prairies. Then they got stuck in Dugtown and had a whole journey to flee back to the Ice Prairies again. They ended up going to The Green Hollows. There they were held hostage at Anniera and later learned that the great Gnag the Nameless (who was the cause of the Great War and all the hard times at Aerwiar) was their great uncle. After all of that they finally settled down at Anniera.
Until the Jewels of Aniera opened the Fane of Fire and he went inside and was given a message from The Maker saying that he was going to pay the price of healing. And then when he tried to, his brother came and paid the price of healing for him. That caused my brother to die. The rest of us started on this new crazy adventure to find the First Well which we did. Giving Janner some of that water, helped Janner to come back to life! Next we all sailed outside of Aerwiar and ended up in the Emerald Forest.
“Wow, you really went to all those places?” Rose asked.
“Yeah, that's been my life for the past two years.” Kalmar declared.
Then Rose turned to Kalmar and said, “I've heard that there are more lands like this one and like yours but at least in The Emerald Kingdom it's forbidden to go there.”
“Forbidden?” he asked,
“Yeah, Mr. Stars is our leader and he says we can never leave the Emerald Kingdom ever.”
“Wow.. I couldn't imagine being stuck in a kingdom forever” Kalmar responded.
“Well, that's how it is here.” she said and she noticed that Kalmar was sketching. “Wow! you're really good.. but if you turn your pencil like this, you can get the perfect light effect.”
“Hey, thanks!” he said, smiling.
The two talked for hours about everything; their lives, drawings, adventures, and even squeeblins came up in the conversation.
All the while, the same white and gray owl was still eyeing Kalmar. Suddenly, that same owl flew away to a dark purple ship covered with pink crystals. It was docked a little outside Sapphire Shore. That owl landed on the deck. When he did, dark purple glowing light swirled all around him, and he turned into a human. There were a few other owls and they also turned into humans.
One white and gray Shapeshifter Owl said to the others, “Report back to the queen, she will be pleased with the news!”
This amazing! Please write more!
