27-29 were slow chapters that I pretty much zoomed through but here are my brief thoughts on the events of these chapters.
My boy Armulyn got mentioned! I hope he comes back in the future. Calling Fangs ugly takes guts and attitude and we all know how much 🌟attitude🌟 I resonate (lol).
We get a nice introduction of Dugtown, or more like, Ditch-on-the-side-of-the-road-filled-with-trash-and-old-rotting-mcdonalds-containers... Town. (Sorry to all who live there, but it smells awful.) I'll get back to Dugtown as a whole in a second. There's still more to these chapters to cover.
Podos time as a strander pretty much saves their lives as they find a nice cozy dirt bunker.
There's a nice little poem about Anyara, you know, falling. But the nicest thing of all (or rather most boring part to me), Oskar translates more of the book for Janner. I'm still waiting to see what's happening to poor Peet, I don't have time for your riddles, old man!... Sorry. That was a bit harsh. I love ya, Oskar. It is actually fascinating what they're finding out about the book but my mind has been set on other matters. Like getting to the Ice Prairies... which I have a feeling isn't a good destination but moving on!
So thags in the burrow was probably the most boring out of these chapters for me. Not because they're not important but because I want them to move forward. This chapter was hard to get through for me and frankly I read these chapters rather quickly. However, the riddle from the sea dragon's still peaked my interest. Who is near them that is so evil? Podo? He isn't evil or selfish anymore. Tink? Sure, he's a jerk later on (I'll cover that in a moment) but he is one of the young ones. The Fork! Factory! guy coming up perhaps? (Also waiting to cover).
Regardless, there is still danger even when they're safe and a bunker.
Moving on to 30-33, now we're getting somewhere! Man, this is where things really start to go downhill. They already were but these chapters are a SPIRAL.
After a suspenseful moment, a wonderful man called the Florid Sword swoops in like a renaissance superhero and takes out Sneem the fang. This guy is cheesy, I like him. I hear a classic confident man voice from him! Now, the TV series is quite different but I'm glad I got to see this guy in the book before it kept going... I got a strange feeling right as I wrote that. Armulyn and this Florid guy... They're giving me the same vibe. I don't know why I got the weird feeling, I could be completely wrong. I mean, Floridy talks like he's from a KJV Bible and Armulyn just called Fangs ugly and played a nice Annerian song... Who knows! These two men have... 🌟attitude🌟
Migg Landers? More like Get-biten-traitor....! Landers. He landers on his face dead as a door nail, if ye know what I mean. Serves you right for traitoring on my peeps.
I felt so bad for Janner and Tink when they got separated from their family! If I was a kid, I'd be TERRIFIED. Chapter 33 was it for me. I'm glad that Rouchy helped the boys but they really got into a scuffle after that.
TINK, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?! I GET THAT YOU'RE MAD AND SCARED BUT JANNER IS JUST TRYING TO HELP! DID IT OCCUR TO YOU THAT HE NEEDED YOU JUST AS MUCH AS YOU NEEDED HIM?! BUT NOOO YOU HAD TO BE SASSY AND RUN INTO DUGTOWN TRAFFIC. GOOD GRIEF, BOY.
I should stop yelling, he can't hear me anyway.
THIS ISN'T A GAME, CHILD.
okay, I'm done... for now. I'll scream more later.
Chapters 34 and on are scenes directly from a horror movie. I can't with how disturbing they are. The violence displayed and the coldness of man... It's ugly. Uglier than a fang is ugly.
Janner gets lost and gets hunted down by evil looking people who resemble very... detestable people I should say. Janner thinks they're gonna eat them but come to find our, they're desperate parents wanting their children back. How sick. I understand you want your child back but trading someone else's child, not just one but two, for yours? I don't think I could do that even if I didn't know God. How low these people must of been... well, are currently as I read. I'm glad Tink didn't have to endure this but if he had been with Janner maybe they both would of avoided the factory.
OH LOOK, ANOTHER RIDGERUNNER TO PUNCH! HELLO LITTLE PUNCHING BAG! Ugh. This one, whose name is Morbik, is the most despicable of all. Zouzab was bad, or is still rather, but this ridgerunner... He's horrid. Not as horrid as the Overseer, who I hope meets a timely demise for his horrible cruelty and dehumanizing behavior towards children. But he's still bad.
The Fork! Factory! is why this book shouldn't be read to children under 12. If i was read this as a child, I would of been terrified of adults from then on. I already was a timid child.
THE WAY HE CALLS THEM TOOLS BURNS ME. THE VIOLENCE HE DISPLAYS IN THESE CHAPTERS MADE MY PHYSICALLY TENSE AND FURIOUS. To even imagine that stuff like this actually happens in some countries... Burns me even more. Humans aren't property. Children are children.
Now, I can see what the Fork! Factory! symbolizes. Janner, a child of the King, is in a hostile environment where even the children will beat others up for an uprising. These children are unbelievers. They see children like Janner as trouble for them. They're without hope and to see it in someone else must be so infuriating for them. They're mindless and in miserable purposeless despair. Weren't we just like those children once? I know I was until I met the King... I can imagine the relief in Janner to see Sara, a spark of hope in the midst of all this pain.
Poor Janner endures many beatings but he refuses to give up hope. It's all he has and that's what he's sticking with. Even when he gets locked in that coffin for two days. Sure, he panicked and screamed and had a moment of low... but the Maker didn't leave him. Even as his hands bled and ached and his fingernails came off from scratching the wood... He was still the King's child. He HELD ON to that. He even used his father's name as a cover up.
Sara, I love you! You're such a good friend to Janner. Without you, he may of completely lost hope. The Maker knew he would need you and that you would need him.
This here concludes and brings you up to speed on all my reading. I hope you enjoyed!
So... have your read more yet? Or are you still in the Fork! Factory!? Today's Saturday, and that's a good day for reading...
I love Sara too!
Yay! More notes!!! 😀
Yes, the parts in the burrow were a bit boring. The Wingfeather kids thought so too. But they were important! And the Ice Prairies are cold and icy. Of course they're a bad destination!!! (4 degrees outside when I got up this morning, and I feel like I haven't seen pavement on the roads for months, just snow. I'm inclined to be opposed to anything cold and icy. But snakes do leave people alone when it's 4 degrees, so that is a benefit.)
The Florid Sword is amazing! Aha!
And yes, Tink deserves all the yelling. Yeah, Janner probably deserves to be yelled at too; after all, Tink did save everybody's lives with the stranders, but still. Tink REALLY deserves to be yelled at!
The Fork! Factory! is SCARY! I originally heard about the Wingfeather Saga because my favorite author shared when it was on sale and highly recommended it. I was interested, but I missed the sale and couldn't justify paying full price on a book I didn't really know anything about when there were so many other books I knew I loved and wanted on my shelves; besides, I didn't have a lot of money. Well, Christmas a little over a year ago, my brother was asking what my daughter would like for Christmas, and since I was wanting to read these books anyway, I suggested book one (so I could read it, too!). I read book one and enjoyed it, but my daughter was disappointed that I read her new book ahead of her, so I agreed to wait to read the rest of the series with her. But I decided that audiobooks didn't apply to this agreement, so I borrowed the audiobooks from the library (she knew I did and was okay with this!) I enjoyed this one, but when I got to the Fork! Factory! .... I suddenly wasn't sure my 9 year old was ready for this!!! And then other things happened that just felt so intensely, deeply evil... maybe even demonic, and I had no idea whether I could trust Andrew Peterson because I had no idea who he was, and didn't know he had great music rich with solid theology, and my daughter was only 9, and... and... and... But Chautona Havig had recommended it, and really, I needed to find out what happened. Turns out, Andrew Peterson is trustworthy! Not like a squeeblin. 😀 But this is why I always tell parents that if their kid is 10 or younger, they should probably read the books before their kids do so they can make sure their kids are ready for them. As it was, I read aloud to my daughter so we could discuss it as we went, and then I read aloud to my 7 year old and 5 year old, probably before they were ready, but I couldn't hold my enthusiasm in!
And I love Sara! And Janner! And Tink, even though he's being an idiot! Claxton and the Overseer... not so much. I'm not sure which of them is more horrid.
I hope your friend reads fast so you can share your next "notes" soon! I'm also curious about what she thinks of it! You could tell her to join the Thwaphouse...
Yeah, The Overseer and Mobrik are extremely irritating. #punchMobrik
I really enjoyed reading that! You summarize it well and make a lot of good points! 👍 Yeah I would definitely like to deliver a couple knuckle sandwiches to The Overseer and Mobrik! 🤛 That part made me mad that I couldn't actually go there and do something!
So are you still in the Fork! Factory! and I shouldn't say anything beyond Janner being beaten and thrown in the coffin?
#PunchMobrik
Ow my ears! I can hear you, you know!
This was sooo good! I totally agree and I can't wait to read your thoughts on the following chapters :)
Very nicely done! Yeah the Fork Factory part I kind of agree with
