More notes of a newbie!
Starting with 42, Gammon takes the stage with Karak. They make a deal in which I don't think I can trust either one of them. Due to a spoiler I heard earlier, I kind of know who this Gammon character is... And I don't know a whole lot to make of him yet. Karak, obviously you can't trust a fang like him so not notes needed there.
43-45
These chapters are where action really picks up. I can't imagine living through three days of no food or water in a coffin. I already have a hard time sitting still but being forced somewhere for three whole days? You'd find me insane. I tried fasting for three days and that was only without food and it was hard! My muscles cramped up so bad and you're telling me Janner is day three into this coffin and he can't even stretch out?! Poor kid! Not even just that but he has welts all over he can't even take care of. This factory has a million OSHA violations!!!! Unacceptable!
Anyway, the days and nights come and go and Janner is offered a chance of a lifetime (at least in the Fork! Factory!) And he doubts if he should leave or wait for a better chance. I'm so glad he didn't take that offer in the end. The vision of his family and Tink really brought him to the reality of the horrible place he was in. I got to ge Janner perks for being so gruff in this moment against Mobrik. Little guy had it coming. Clubber him!
This daring escape was not without casualties... Sara didn't go with Janner and that drove me crazy. I didn't fully understand why she didn't run but I also do? She didn't want Janner being caught and she sacrificed herself for him.
He had to put so much trust that Sara would do as she said she was going to do and she held on. I'm proud of her. I can't imagine the punishment she'll endure though ๐ข.
46-48
They left Janner and Tink, I couldn't believe it! ๐ญ No!! I felt my heart sink, I was so sad and caught off guard!
What gets me even angrier... TINK MADE IT THERE BUT HE KEPT GOING! TINK, WHAT IS YOUR DEAL?! YOUR FAMILY LOVES YOU AND WAS WORRIED AND YOU JUST LEFT THEM FOR STRANDERS?!?! AHHHHHHHHH KID!
I was as mad as Janner when I heard from Nurgabog... After that chapter with Nurgabog, she gave me Alagatha vibes lol. I'm glad she could talk Janner into going to rescue Tink from Claxton aka ugly and smelly man. Though, Nurgabog being offended about Claxton hurting her was comical to me. You raise a child to thievery and violence and they turn around and fight you? Man, I wonder who taught him to do that! ๐ Eh, but I do feel bad for her. I hope she survives.
Janner, poor kid has been without a good meal forever and is filthy... His sketch on page 232 shows it. He's tired. He looks awful. The fact that when he gets all the way to the strander camp and finds no Tink was devastating! Ugh another heart sink!
But... here comes my previously least enjoyed character... Maraly. Not going to lie, she starts growing on me in the next few chapters... I wish she didn't spit so much lol. I'm happy she helps Janner.

FINALLY MORE PEET! Though I can't say I'm happy to see him like this. Every description of this poor man moves my soul.
This chapter is where I met the Grey fangs for the first time. Wolf beings... Terrifying at that... I admire them more than the lizard fangs. They are dignified and intelligent, which is scary but... They're not childish nor do they lash out in haste as the other fangs did. However, they are still my enemy for what they're executing against Peet and others. They're corrupt.

I appreciate Maraly for sticking beside Janner. I mean, she had nothing better to do... If your father is fine with killing your grandmother, I don't think I'd want to go home either...
However, I'm happy she teaches Janner a thing or two about hunting down these awful creatures. If he hadn't of had this gruff girl with him, I'm sure he would of died out there...

The song of the ancient stones. I finally know how Artham became the way he did. The song... All you have to do is give up and sing the song. He was involved in that somehow which isn't mentions quite in this chapter. I'll come back to that part later. However, poor Artham is faced with a choice. He could allow himself to be mindless slave and forget all of his pains... and the Stone Keeper might let the children and people go free. In his place, I would cry and not know what to do either. I felt even worse for him when I saw that his talons were cold against his skin... The use of hands of a poet are their everything. Artham lost that capability. If I lost that, I would go insane myself. I wish I could help him!

๐ถ bomnubble in the middle of the sea๐ถ ๐ถbomnubble in the middle of the sea๐ถ
No, these guys are more terrifying than my annoying little song. Maraly sparks irritation in me and Janner as she proudly claims she could take one down. Tink vibes. However, Janner saves their hides (and gathers new ones!) Ba dum tis! Long story short, they got pelts to stay warm and smelly! Thank the Maker!
Gammon shows up, I don't trust him after that one chapter... I don't know what he's up to. Janner shouldn't trust him either but whatever, we'll see where this goes lol. I think he's kind but he could be pretending. He no doubt takes care of the kids from snickbuzzards and delivers them to Kimera. Janner makes suspicious comments, or rather his thoughts, talk of how familiar Gammon is... I kinda already know the twist because of a spoiler I received... though I don't think I might if caught on if I hadn't of been spoiled. Other than some of his phrases, I don't know. Also, the sketch in 267 would of given it away. What a Ramger lookalike.
I was happy Nia and Janner were reunited and that it wasn't a trap. I didn't tear up as I thought I should of but I was just as gold as they were in the basement of my house without heat lol. Very immersive writing LOL!

Aw, Artham!!! My heart hurts for you, bird man ๐ญ. I can't believe he surrendered after knowing exactly what was happening to those kids and adults... but... I can. In his position... I would give up too. If I was in such deep guilt and grief and more and more people were dying and I could stop it... Giving up sounds like the favorable option. I'm NOT saying it's the right choice but I am saying I understand his decision...
The stone keeper... She's haunting as she is oddly calming. I could feel her essence through the pages. She's a kiss of death, that's what she is.
I knew I'd find you here, Kalmar Wingfeather. I knew you would be here and that's not just because the cover and Fandom spoiled it for me! (It actually is...)

Janner has a guilt moment just like Peet and I feel for him... He's a lot like his uncle. No child should have to bear the weight of their siblings on their back for their decisions... But Leelis song showed him that Tink was alive!... but is it too late?
Artham does all he can to get Tink's attention but it's no use. Tink will sing the song ๐ญ
That's where I stopped. ๐คซ
As March comes to an end, I must gladly announce I have finished book 2 and a review will be up shortly for your viewing
Has your friend caught up to you yet?
It is really fun to read your thoughts on each of the chapters as you make your way through the books! The grey fangs are truly blood chilling in their intelligence and more calm demeanor. (I really look forward to seeing their designs in the series when it comes out!๐๐๐๐
Interesting thoughts... what are your suspicions of what will happen???
I'm really enjoying reading your thoughts. I completely agree with what you're saying about Artham... I'm not sure what I'd do in his place either. I remember thinking about it a lot when I first read it. Originally I thought, yes! of course I would give myself over if it meant saving all those kids! But, how do you know the stone keeper is going to keep her word and just let all those people go free? Was it worth it to try? Can the stone keeper be trusted? probably not. I was conflicted. and Tink... I wanted to knock some sense into him. Just because you're afraid doesn't mean that you run away from your family. You were so close! Very selfish. And now look at where that got him... ๐ฅ. I'm not sure how you had the ability to restrain yourself from reading more... I know I wouldn't have been able to. I literally was reading 30 seconds or less per page during those chapters, with the book probably only a few inches from my face. Maraly... I didn't really like her. She was rude and arrogant and I didn't want her around Janner, or especially Tink, for fear of the influence she would put on them. I understand that she was raised that way and she'd been through a lot... but still. Can't wait to read more of your thoughts!
*resits the urge to give more spoilers* Ah! Why would you stop there?!๐ญ
That's litterally the worst possible place for you to stop! ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
HOW COULD YE STOP THERE?!
I'm sorry you got so many spoilers!!!!!!! ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ That makes me sad! And that book cover is a really annoying spoiler. I'm trying to figure out how to buy the set for my niece and nephew without spoiling it for them.
And see? Tink deserves all the yelling!
And that was a really good point about Nurgabog raising Claxton to be the way he is! I still don't know whether Claxton or the overseer is worse.
Janner is running on nothing but adrenaline now. I read it and am always amazed that he doesn't collapse on the way. I hope he at least got a drink from the river! And I named my kitten after Maraly. That kitten is fearless, reckless (she'll jump on my border collie's face!), sometimes vicious, but also as sweet as can be. The name fits!
You were cold in your basement without power. Were you hit by the same storm that hit, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, etc.? We never lost power, but we did get like a foot of snow and the temp dropped to -30โฐ. Ugh. When it gets so cold I bundle up and imagine I'm in Kimera. Kimera must be miserable.
@Janna The Heart Iโm so sorry you accidentally got that spoiler. Totally my fault.
I'm glad Maraly is starting to grow on you!!
I don't know if you've been watching the series, but I was surprised that they brought the stonekeeper in as early as they did.
That's a good (and amusing) take on it Janna.
