This shouldn't be very spoilery, but the main reason I'm asking is because of N!obE, so it might get a little spoilery in comments???
Does anyone know how long it takes to cross the DSoD? For the longest time I've had it in my head that it takes about eight weeks (and I was sure I read it somewhere in the series), but now I'm doubting myself. I'm particularly concerned because I've used this bit of information in multiple fanfictions, and I would rather use as little noncanonical information as possible sooo... 😅
OtEotDSoD page 162!!! "Gnag had summoned him, which meant that he would spend four weeks crossing the Dark Sea of Darkness"!
I FOUND IT!!! 😃 (I imagine sailing time would vary depending on time of year, wind patterns, weather, etc.
My head is thinking 5 weeks, and maybe up to 2 months, but I haven't found anything in the books confirming that (from when I was looking just now). It does say that the captured fangs were troublesome in the hold for weeks before they were set adrift, and that Janner had lain awake for many nights after that worrying that the fangs would come back and kill them.
We might be able to compare the distance between Skree and the Hollows to the distance between America and Europe (I believe Andrew Peterson did compare the the countries that way in interviews). According to Google, in 1492 the voyage across the Atlantic took between 6 weeks and 4 months, and Columbus did it in 61 days. In 1776, ships could travel 100-150 miles a day and could travel from the English channel to New York in 25-30 days.
I'm rereading the books and I recently read the part where they mentioned that they miraculously crossed it in 5 days when they were fleeing Anneira, so it must usually take much longer
@Andreajoy4jesus probably knows- I do think it was mentioned at some point, but it's been a while.
