I've stopped doing my little updates on my reading since The Mittens of Nowhier began but I've gotten to a place where Peet is actually my favorite character.
Now, I'm on chapter 38 so I don't know much about Peet other than he could be a throne warden (as hinted like multiple times) but not sure about where he fits yet so don't spoil me. I found it interesting that he has talons for feet and hands. Not only is he crazy but is half bird, so that's a thing. He seems to of gotten his brain scrambled at some point, as if he were once a perfectly sane individual. At least he isn't completely insane, he still is heroic as I'm sure he once was.
Now Podo, I love him but why is he being so mean to Peet? Even if I knew the reason, which I don't, I would still probably tell Podo his brain garden has some thwaps in it. Podo seems like the kinda guy who is nice until you make some form of a mistake/or intentional move that affects his family. The guy is mostly a good character, though he is rough round the edges like any ex pirate grandfather would be I'm sure. However, I detest his meanness towards Peet despite multiple people trying to be kind to him. #GiveTalonManAChance. He's doing his best, Podo. That's got to count for something. (Though, if keeping a secret is the reason, Podo, I think the kids are sick of secrets by now. You got the laid back child mad and I'm not just talking about Tink.)
Holy cow, this story really show foreshadowing obviously but makes you hang onto the interactions, wanting to just know what's going on. Janner, my guy, I feel you. I like the story regardless, I was spoiled ahead of time on some *cough* IMPORTANT details. I do wish the main plot secret was kept a surprise instead of right in my face while I'm on the first book but live and learn. I'll try to be better for newbies coming in later on. I understand the passion for the story can make some forget, or not mind, those who haven't experienced the story yet.
Now, I'm seeing where the THAGS thing came in. I thought it was a silly thing but it's actually useful. I have a feeling that each talent of each child is a key. I can relate to Tink most because drawing is actually my main talent. Writing is my second. As for singing... I won't tell you how bad I am. I wish I could! I don't even know how to read sheet music, kudos if any of you can!
Odd enough, this book is much more violent than any other children's book I've read. I'd give it a PG 13, not a PG rating. To by honest, if I were to give my books to my nephew, I'd be waiting a long while before I'd let him read them. It's definitely for the more mature children and not children the same age as the Igiby children. Makes me curious to see how this will do on Angel Studios in TV form. I'm assuming they won't be as graphic. The thought of a giant lizard person digging his claws into Peets arm and the description of it seems like it's not for children. (Reminder: this is actually in the book, the very thing we're here for) This is a young adult speaking by the way, not a mom. Not a Nia! Though, I do admire her strengths.
It's not to say it's bad but rather the target audience is a little off. I'd say it's for 13-17 year olds but in an easy to read format, which I appreciate being an amateur reader.
Truth be told, I read way ahead of my reading buddy and probably should let her know so she can catch up... maybe then I can read some more haha.
In these chapters, I read about a toothy cow! They seem terrifying. I don't know if I can look at normal cows the same way. What a scary mooment.
Final thoughts:
Peet is actually the star of the book and should be treated as such. Who's with me?!
Maybe banging on it will get it back in tune. Throwing it back into a truck also works.
I first read these books at 9 and never really thought they were all that violent. Of course, I'd already read "The Lord of the Rings" and more violent stuff at a younger age, and most of my friends watched PG-13 stuff underage (as young as 7 in some instances).
As for Artham VS the Fang, our doxen would bite us on the neck and knock us down the stairs as toddlers. When we got into our preteens our cat left a nasty laceration down the inside of my forearm. She would also bite other family members. So if you're talking about people who've tried to keep pets it probably isn't much worse than what they themselves have experienced.
I'd say there's enough heart in the story for it to be 10+, but I get what you mean. Also I accept your kudos. Podo has his reasons... you will find out why in the first book if I remember correctly. Even so, why Podo is bitter isn't Peet's fault, per say.
