Okay….it’s been five days since y’all got a chapter, and I am happy to say that, voila! Here we are! Pretty much in the next chapter, things pick up and don’t stop till the end 🙂
So, this the last “chill” chapter…..for awhile 😅
CHAPTER TWELVE
Kalmar was staring intently at Emerald. Something was off. Very off. She hadn’t spoken since she had learned of his name, and now he was beginning to wonder if he shouldn’t have told her. Just because she helped him and was blind didn’t mean that she couldn’t be evil. He couldn’t just blindly go with someone who could hurt him or his family.
“I’m not going another step.”
Emerald stopped and looked back at him. “What do you mean? You have to help your brother.”
“I will. But how can I know I can trust you? Why are you all of a sudden so concerned about him?”
She turned and faced him. “Look Kal, I haven’t showed any sign of hurting you. I’m concerned because of my own personal reasons.”
“What reasons?”
“None of your concern.”
“You know, I barely know you. How do I even know Emerald is your real name?”
Emerald sighed. “What is a real name, hmm? What’s your real name then?”
“I told you!”
“Well, if you doubt me, I have a right to doubt you.”
“I”ve only been honest. What is your name?”
“If I tell you, what does it matter?”
“So, you admit you’ve been lying?”
She laughed. “I never lied. I told you could call me Emerald.”
“So what’s your name?!” Kalmar was getting extremely heated and angry.
Emerald stared at him. It unnerved Kalmar the way she could stare at him….though she could not see.
“Arthra. That’s my name. Now stop bothering me, and just follow me!”
She spun on her heel and marched off. But then she stopped.
“Wingfeather. Arthra Wingfeather. That’s my name.”
Kalmar’s jaw dropped. “What? How are you-“
“Artham married Arundelle years ago. He told no one, and when I was born, he kept it that way.”
Arthra drew up her pretty head and started walking off.
Kalmar’s head spun as he went to follow her. He had a cousin?! How was this possible?! Why had Artham never mentioned the fact THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER!?!! Of course, it could have slipped his mind, what with the insanity, but having a child seemed like a pretty hard thing to forget. Then more questions poured through his mind.
Why was she in the Blackwood?
Why had his mother never mentioned her?
Why was she blind? Was she born that way?
He knew trying to ask her would be fruitless, and possibly dangerous. She was angry.
After what seemed ages, she stopped abruptly. “We’re here,” she whispered. Kalmar looked around him. Everything was greener, and fairer, and more alive! He felt more alive. Arthra reached out a white hand and pushed back some vines, and Kal beheld the sight he had only beheld once before—the First Well.
Suddenly all other thoughts drained from his mind, and one was left. He had to save Janner. This had to work.
Let me know what you all think! 😉
