Okay, guys. I was rereading The Warden and the Wolf King this morning, (for the fourth time) and discovered either a canon breach or another tantalizing bit of evidence that sends us running in circles trying to figure out the First Well, (and what happens after the Epilogue) So. Spoilers ahead.
Be you friend or be you foe,
Beware to all who follow,
For in the catacombs below
Is hidden in the hollow,
A way that leads to pain and woe,
Sadness, grief, and sorrow…
So think you long before you go
Exploring here tomorrow.
Now to the question. We all know the well has healing power. Now we need to go back years and years, to nine year old Gnag in Castle Throg. Will was panicking because he was running out of Water and his meldings are failing. Gnag kills him in his sleep and drinks the Water! Why did it not heal him!??? A question for you to ponder.
@Ellie
Ah, but it did.
You see, his disability was not one that was caused -- rather, he was born like that, and the Maker doesn't make mistakes.
It was no mistake that he was disabled, thus his brokenness was never something to be fixed.
He was already perfectly healed, even if he didn't think so.
Thus, the Well served its purpose perfectly - quite like fruit of the Tree of Youth in Narnia. It gave a long life, but did not come without suffering.
