I'm sure my brain isn't letting me think of all the potential references, but here are a few. Have you noticed any additional ones?
The description of a book Janner reads in OtEotDSD sounds like it could potentially be referring to the Hobbit.
The part of book 2 at Fingap falls where Janner and Tink are keeping track of how many fangs they have each dusted reminds me of the parts in LOTR where Gimli and Legolas are having a similar competition.
The calls of the tracker fangs in the WFS animated series sound like the orcs-in-the-distance noise in the Hobbit movies.
Which book? On what page? I'm not doubting you, but I am INCREDIBLY curious and would love more details! I know he was reading The House of the Kindly Flabbits near the beginning and it wasn't his favorite, but I forgot any others 😅
Aww you're right!!! 😂
*gasp INTERESTING! you're right!
What if The Hobbit and LOTR exist in Aerwiar as books?
Janner does talk about a book in OtEotDSoD about “slaying a dragon that actually flew with a band of companions” sounds SCARILY SIMILAR to The Hobbit!
I think you are 100% correct, as Andrew Peterson mentions about the rich world building in Middle Earth that provides so much potential and room for story. I think Tolkien DEFINITELY influenced him — I think EVERY fantasy writer has been influenced by at least Tolkien because of what a fantastic writer he was and how influential he was on our culture.
(Side note: Did you know that Tolkien actually CHANGED the English language? The original spelling of “elves” and “dwarves” was “elfs” and “dwarfs,” but he coined those terms ending with “-ves.” I dare say, if a writer such as he changed the English language, he deserves to influence fantasy writers.)
AAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! YES! YES! YESSSS! Someone else thinks that the book he read was the Hobbit! I have had that little canon for SOOOO LONG!
**high five*
Yeah, I could see the thing with Janner. I do see a lot of parallels between LOTR and Wingfeather.
Yeah, that’s true. That whole scene gives off Khazad-Dune vibes!
Uh…..yeah I guess I could see that.
huh
what book was he reading???
