Prologue
~~~~~~~~
Long ago, before the first kingdom was built, on the Isle of Hyrasil, there were hunters. The hunters were a group of beings able to protect the Isle, and they soon wished to be sheltered from the dangers of the great evil warlord Rowen. Rowen thirsted for revenge and power. His fortress in called Ravens Keep, which is found in the ice glaciers. With the power from his Red Stone found at the bottom of a lava canyon, he can turn himself into a raven as he flies above, making it difficult for the hunters to know his next move. The leaders of the hunters’ names were Lyra and Lorcan Firesinger; Lyra had a special singing power that had been passes down from her family for generations. Whenever she sang a special song, fire protected her in whatever dire situation she might be stuck in. Now it came about in that time, Lyra bore two twin children, one a boy and one a girl, they gave the girl the name Wrenley and they gave the boy the name Quirin, who were born with the same singing power as their mother and amber eyes as their father. When Rowen heard the news that two children had been born with this singing power, he became angry and wanted this power for himself. He ordered his troops to set out and find these newborn twin children, Lyra and Lorcan, had to flee from the Isle of Hyrasil to protect their children. On the South side of the Isle of Hyrasil lies a small island called Ikirea, where they they fled to protect their precious children. “We must go,” Lorcan said. “I know,” his wife said, crying softly. Then they heard the sound of horse trotting coming toward them, “Get to the boat!” Lorcan yelled from the dock, “I’ll hold them off.” Lyra ran as fast as her legs could carry her, it was raining that evening so it was harder to see where she was stepping, as soon as she got to the boat while she was climbing down the stairs into the captain’s corrdors she slipped on the steps and twisted her foot “Ahhhhhh!” she said crying in pain, her babies were still in her arms as she carefully found a rusty chair to sit on and rest her foot. Lorcan had been overpowered by the thr many horsemen fighting him, and one of the men on his horse got so close to his face that he almost lost an eye. He ran as fast as he could to get to the boat. He saw his now crippled wife and twin children in her arms, with tears in his eyes he started steering the boat toward Ikirea island, where they’d hoped to find safety for their young children. When the island came into view, Lorcan helped his wife. He tore off some of his shirt, made a cloth wrap around her ankle, as she used him for support. As they walked off the boat and looked at each other, Lyra said, “l don’t want to leave our children.” “I know,” Lorcan said as he stroked her long brown hair, “ Tresik knows the plan; he will keep them safe until we return.” Tresik was a close friend of Lorcans and promised to keep the children safe until the couple told him it was safe to return to Hyrasil. As they walked toward the safe house, Lyra quietly sang lullabies to her children under her breath and prayed to the Maker to keep her children safe. Lorcan walked with a sad look on his face, like he knew he would probably never see his children again. As they came upon the safe house, Tresik came out looking as ready and protective as ever with his purple armor and bright, gleaming sword; he looked ready enough to take all of Rowens troops. “There you are!” Tresik said, “l’ve been waiting for hours. I thought you wouldn’t make it.” “Please protect our children,” Lyra said. “Rowen is after their power.” “If anything happened to them, l don’t know what would become of me.” “They’ll be safe here.” Lorcan promised. “Tresik knows what he’s doing. “Trust me, dear Lyra, l would be willing to sacrifice anything for these children. Lyra softy handed the children. Both parents kissed the children on the head and said goodbye. “Trust me,” Tresik said to both parents, “These children will remain safe and in my care until you give the news that it is safe to return to what might just be these children’s future. “I wanted to give you this,” Lyra said, placing a small golden Amulet in Tresik’s hand, “lt has my singing powe in it, if anything happens while were gone, use it.” She said with tears rolling down her face, “My dear,” Tresik said, “They will be safe.” Lyra and Lorcan kisses their children one more time, as they took each other’s hands, looked at each other, Lyra still leaning on Lorcan for support, and them at Tresik, and the at their children, who were sound asleep in Tresik’s hands. “We love you,” they both said, as they walked away toward the boat hand in hand, but little did they know those would be the last words their children heard of their parents, before a great storm arose. As they were at sea, their parents were never able to get back to the Isle of Hyrasil. It was a longer time than Tresik could have known before hearing the news about Lyra and Lorcans’ death. He wept bitterly, knowing the children would never get to grow up with their parents. The twins Lyra and Lorcan’s children children, were both ten years old now, the age when they would start to learn about their singing powers. Tresik sailed back to Hyrasil with the children at his side, just as he had promised their parents. When they arrived at the Isle of Hyrasil, Tresik became leader of the hunters and trained the children with their powers. Years passes, and there was a great population of people on the Isle of Hyrasil. Tresik built a mighty kingdom called Harvald and the hunters dubbed him the king of the Isle of Hyrasil.
