Ok guys, can we talk about the fact that Janner was literally 12 YEARS OLD throughout the series?! Listen, I LOVE Podo and Nia, and I understand why they put pressure on Janner. HOWEVER, they put too much on him too fast. I know they had to tell him he was The Throne Warden, but they should have explained it earlier, before basically just making him constantly have to worry about his siblings, who aren't even that much younger than him...? Like they could have given him more warning in my opinion. Also in book three, when he has a bad day and was upset, Nia acted like nothing was wrong, and didn't even ask him if he was ok. After he had given up what he wanted to do for Kalmar. I understand he grew to love The Durgan Guild, but at the same time, he was upset, and felt ignored by his family. Nia is a good mom, she irritates me to the max sometimes though. Also the "Blindplopping" was good for Janner, and kept him safe, I'll admit that. But to drug him, and drop him in the middle of the forest in the middle of winter was crazy. Also forcing him to overeat. I am sure that he is capable, and I get why Nia agreed to it. It's still unacceptable though. She as HIS MOTHER, needs to do a better job at being emotionally there for him. I like Nia, but be for real.

Okay, I think it's necessary to push back here. I'm not trying to be rude, sorry if it comes across that way, I just disagree. Nia and Podo did put pressure on Janner, but not all of the pressure he felt was because of them. A lot of what he felt came from himself. He wanted to live up to his father, he wanted to live up to Podo, he wanted to live up to Artham. And, just like we all should do, he pressured himself to live up to those heroes in his life. Besides that, though, he had a passionate desire to fulfill a goal: freeing Skree and Anneira. He pressured himself a lot of the time, and we can see that a lot. When he jumped into the ocean to save Kalmar at the end of book two, that was his own brotherly love and desire fueling him, not Nia or Podo. The only thing that made him track down Kalmar to follow him to Throg was his own sense of love and honor. His loyalty was what kept him going in the depths of Throg when Kalmar kept turning into a Fang. So yes, Podo and Nia put pressure on him, but he also put a lot of pressure on himself. Also, Podo and Nia needed to put that pressure on him for all of their survival. They were all put into a situation that they didn't want or deserve, and Podo and Nia didn't know how long they would make it. If one of them died, they needed to be sure that Janner could, and would, do his job as Throne Warden. Podo did eventually die, which goes to show how confident he was in Janner at that point. Nia and Podo needed to protect the children at all costs, and the pressure they put on Janner was one of the ways they did that. Also, he was the oldest and they usually get a lot more responsibility naturally, so theres that too. Sorry for the essay, but that's my opinion.
