Thags

All the children reach some level of proficiency in all the THAGS, but each focuses on a particular one. Throne Wardens do Word, Kings/Queens do Form, Song Maidens/Masters do Song, and Lore Wains do Word as well. I know this is the correct answer, but when I searched through all four books for the last couple of days trying to find proof of this, I couldn't find it anywhere!!!! 😭 But surely we're not all remembering incorrectly??? All I could find was what Janner, Kalmar, Leeli, Artham and Esben did! (And we know that Queen Madia had the whistleharp, and could probably play it, but that could still make sense if everyone studied each of the THAGS at least a little bit, right?)

I know a lot of people think that the royal children were always naturally or magically gifted in their particular THAG, but I think their skill in their assigned THAG came from learning and practicing from the time they were old enough to understand language. As babies they constantly heard poetry, looked at picture books, and listened to music and played with sturdy instruments. All that practice would make them good at whatever they spent the most time practicing, and people generally enjoy things that they are good at.

I also think that all Annieran children probably study the THAGS, not just the royals. Oskar talked about the children of Anyara and the magic that was in their music, poetry, and paintings. (N!ObE p. 279)

So, for example, Janner, Kalmar, and Leeli practice all three, but they excel in a certain one.

Song Maidens do Song.

Throne Wardens do Word.

High Kings/Queens do Form.

Lore Wains are more like historians, so I don't really know! Maybe they do all three, which is my best quess 😅

The TW learns Word, and the King studies Form. And yes, the Lore Wains do word as well.

From what I can tell, the TW usually does Word and the king Form. However, it's possible that they could just be more talented in another of the THAGS- although, from my understanding, they're trained from birth in their subject.

I always just thought they were predisposed to it. I have a head canon that girls usually are more predisposed to do all three better tho...

Perhaps in Aerwiar, the Maker just has firstborns be gifted in word, secondborns in form, and thirdborns in song?

It would be interesting to know if there were any times in Anniera's history in which the order was different

im assuming its assigned judging by the fact Esben was an artist and Artham a writer

Bonifer (😡) said something about Janner doing word, as the oldest typically does, but I don't know if it's assigned or just happens to fall in that order
