Was it the Maker or was it a person who put the Throne Warden, High Queen/King, Song Maiden/Master, Lore Wain set up in play? Specifically that the older would serve the younger....I know it happened after the mess with Will, and I would check for myself, but I don't have my books at the hotel (for shame, I know 😅)

Maybe... in the story of Jacob and Esau, Esau was supposed to serve Jacob. Oh, yes, I know. I don't have my books at the hotel either.😔
Interesting idea! It does say that the Annierans established this tradition themselves, but I wonder if it's based off of the Maker's ways, if that makes sense... like that's something the Maker would do and would be pleasing to Him.
I'm not certain, but I bet it was a human probably, or maybe the Maker spoke with the King in the Fane of Fire.
I’m not sure, but I do know that in the excerpts from the First Book, there is something like a poem; “the limning speaks, the shaping shines, the melody is light in time, then descends the stair that the king may downward climb…”
This does seem to mention the three, and it was written by Dwayne, if I remember correctly.
Like Janna said, I think it would make the most sense if it was set up by the Maker in some way. (I've also seen the biblical similarities in the dynamic of Jacob/Esau, as well as Cain's question about being "his brother's keeper".) If each one's giftings and special abilities (THAGS as well as talking to sea dragons, triggering a connection with music, seeing pictures, etc.) are linked to their role, that would support this theory. After all, the THAGS are used to open the fane door.
I haven't finished the last book but from what I can tell, I think the Maker either intervened and set that system up OR he inspired the royal family to. It's a Biblical principle (Jacob/Esau)
