Yeah...a bit of Esnia...a bit short....but here comes the King!
CHAPTER FIVE: NIAS LABOR
Nia had become pregnant again. Everyone was thrilled at the prospect of a new baby. However, this pregnancy had made Nia rather sick. It was much harder than Janner’s had been, and this caused Esben a fair amount of stress as the months counted down for the baby to arrive.
There was another type of stress in the household, however. Artham and Podo were at odds. Everything between the two men ended up in an argument, and it caused a major strain on Artham’s relationship with even his brother, who was terribly torn.
Podo expected loyalty from Esben, but Es could hardly bare the look of extreme hurt that stressed on Artham’s face if he sided with Podo. But, if he sided with Artham, Podo pounded around the house angry all day.
Soon, Artham stopped talking to Podo, and things slowly started to improve. However, Artham was not seen much around the castle anymore. He was always upstairs working on some project with his wife and daughter, one not even Esben knew about. Though, Esben thought it had to do with the time he didn’t really see Ari for three months.
Nia was having her own issues. She was worried about Artham. Before, he had been on good terms with Podo, respectful but not terrified. Now he cowered, and most of the time he let Podo win an argument.
“Esben,” Nia said one day, as the couple sat together in the living room. “Do you think your brother is alright?”
“Hard to tell. He keeps himself so cut off from even me sometimes that it makes me worry.”
“What happened with my father? Do you know?”
Esben paused. “Nia, I wish I knew, love, but I don’t.”
Nia sighed. “It makes me sad! They used to be like father and son. Artham has always been a brother to me, and now I wonder.”
Esben took her hand in his. “He will always be your brother, and I hope you will always be his sister. He loves you as much as he did Emerald. You have been a comfort to him.”
Nia smiled. “He will always be treated as my brother.”
Esben smiled.
He looked her in her deep green eyes, but then they shut tight, and she gripped her stomach. “Esben! The baby! He’s coming!”
