Alright, it’s still this week! 😂
I hope you like it, and a new chapter will be following sometime this next week!
CHAPTER NINE
“Keep up. How am I so much faster than you?” Emerald dryly asked, as Kalmar trudged after her.
“Do you even know where you’re going, because it doesn’t look like it,” Kalmar said, frowning.
Emerald whipped her head around and faced him. “Look, have we run into anything dangerous since you have been with me?”
“No.”
“Have I lied to you at all?”
“No.”
“Have I shared provisions with you?”
“Yes.”
“Have I lived here for way longer than you’ve been here?”
“Yes.”
“Then, should you trust me? Even though I am blind?”
Kal sighed. “Yes.”
“Right. And I do know where I am going because I have marked this trail before with things only me and one other person know about. Now let’s keep walking.”
They walked a few yards in silence. Emerald’s whole form was tense, her back muscles were tight, and her lips were pursed. Kalmar was just staring at her.
“Who?” Kal asked.
“‘Who’ what?”
“Who else knows?”
Here Emerald stopped abruptly. She tensed even more, and her breath slightly quickened. “I have no reason to tell you that,” she whispered, her voice tense and strained.
Kalmar said nothing. He felt that he had touched a spot that had long gone without being touched…a place that hurt, a wound that had been sealed….but he had accidentally opened.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, “I didn’t mean to hurt you. Mama always said I needed to work on my sensitivity. She says I get it from the Helmer side of me.”
Emerald jolted slightly. “Helmer?”
“Yeah. You know the name?”
“Too well….”
She turned and looked at him, kneeling down. “Is your name Kalmar…Wingfeather?”
Kal reddened slightly, but nodded his head. And then, after realizing she couldn’t see him, he said, “Yes.”
At this, Emerald stared at him harder. “And Janner is dead?”
“Yeah,” Kalmar said, feeling a pang in his heart at the rough mentioning of a subject so sensitive, and said, “I told you that already.”
Emerald still stared. “Let’s keep moving. Quickly.”
She didn’t speak anymore after that, and Kalmar wondered what the name Wingfeather meant to her, and began to fear she couldn’t be trusted. But it was quite the opposite.
She had lived in Anniera, and, as many perceptive ones have figured out, her real name is not Emerald, but Arthra, and she is the daughter of Artham and Arundelle Wingfeather, and Janner she had known as a toddler, so finding out of his death greatly pained her. That was why she was quiet. She had a lot to think about.
They walked like that for over an hour….
Unbeknownst to both of them, the much sought after Well was almost in sight, and they were mere miles away……but before we make it to our Well, let us take a look at Artham, and see what the ‘bear’ has done to him.
And now we know her real name! Yay!
And the next chapter we will be dealing with Artham…I wonder how everyone will react to that chapter 😂
HER FATHER! HE FATHER KNOWS THE PATH!
