The Nature of Seeds
Oskar's Aerwiar-rattling snores drowned out any other sound in the forest, but somehow, they didn't bother anyone that night. And they were probably the reason why nobody heard the muffled footfalls of a creature beheld by only one set of human eyes since the time of old Anyara. That set of eyes was now lidded, rapidly darting back and forth in a dream that the dreamer would not remember when he awoke.
The creature approached a worn wooden cart filled with ornate pillows that contrasted starkly with its splintered and faded boards. Nestled securely amongst the pillows lay a bundle, tucked in with a blanket. The ancient creature gingerly folded back the sheet and lifted the bundle out. After pausing for a moment to contemplate what it held, it turned back the way it came.
The gentle beast lumbered off with the bundle, and passed between two stone pillars with ivy almost masking their carvings, toward a sparkling clear pool that seemed to glow from within. Not fed by any stream, the pool was the sole body of water in the clearing.
Silently and reverently, the creature dunked the bundle under the water, then raised it up again. The outer cloths unwound and slipped off in the water, revealing a curled up young boy with his eyes closed in what appeared to be sleep. As the luminescent water dripped from his clothes, hair, and skin, his nose scrunched and the air was stirred by a single gasp from his lungs.
