Just finished Wingfeather Tales! I really liked it!
The end of 'The Places Beyond The Maps' made me think of the Further up and Further in part in The Last Battle. I really hope that there will be more Wingfeather Tales someday! What story was your favorite from the tales? And why?
I really liked 'The Places Beyond The Maps' because of the depth that Douglas McKelvey wrote into it describing the thoughts and struggles that can go through a man's heart!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! My top three favorites are probably 1) the Places Beyond the Maps, 2) Willow Worlds, and as for 3), I can't remember the name since I haven't read it in a while and my copy of Wingfeather Tales is currently being borrowed, but it's the poem about the two cousins who both fall in love with the same girl, lol. I love poetry. That would be so awesome if another Wingfeather Tales was written! I've heard rumors that Mr. Peterson is working on another book, maybe a fantasy....
The Places Beyond the Maps was kind of confusing for me. I didn't really like the authors' writing style, either (run-on sentences and page-long sentences were common). One thing I really liked about it, though, was the deep meanings/contemplations. I thought it was sad that Sara's father dies in the end, though.
I liked the first three!
The Prince of Yorsha Doon:
This story was super clever! I liked how Oscar was in it and how you could see Safiki change. It was nice, seeing into other lands and cities. I like how Yorsha Doon is like a city from Arabian Nights. I would love to visit it.
The Wooing of Sophelia Stupe:
This one was funny! I liked how light-hearted it was! I want to know if Ollister ever finds Sophelia. There’s also the message about how even “ugly” people are beautiful.
Willow Worlds:
I really liked Willow Worlds because we got to hear about a younger Podo. I also caught the tie-in with the cabinets (even though I hadn’t read/listened to any of 100 Cupboards at the time). It was super clever.
The Places Beyond the Maps:
This one was good, but I also didn’t like it. The way the story was written wasn’t my favorite and it kind of felt hard to completely get to know the man because we never get to know his name. The story delt with a lot of hard emotions and things, but the whole also felt very depressed, and I didn’t want to read it (even though I made myself). It was clever to make him Sara’s father, but I wish he wasn’t. I wish he’d been able to redeem himself, and hadn’t killed the Fendril. I mean, it’s better he didn’t redeem himself for the story’s sake, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I also wish we’d seen the wife again. What happened to her? How did she deal with it? I also didn’t like the ending. And what happened to the boy? Did he survive? Did he make it to civilization? What happened to the little girl in the long run? Did she go with Armulen? Or was that all a dream and she died? I didn’t like the ending.
How'd you enjoy hearing more about yourself in the first story?
"Places Beyond the Maps" was my favorite as well, mainly because it wasn't as silly and lighthearted as the other stories. It had more meaning to it.
Good for you!!!!
I loved "The places beyond the maps a lot too!"
