CHAPTER TWELVE: DINNER TIME

It had been three months since Leeli was born, and it was a perfectly normal day. The family was just seated at dinner, enjoying pleasant talk and discussing some political matters that had come up during the day.

“Do you think there is any hold to those rumors about Yorsha waging war on the Hollows?” Esben asked, as he took a sip of his water.

“Maybe. I wouldn’t think the Dooners would though. Maybe something from the Killridge. Whatever the case, I’m sure Rudric can manage it. He makes a good Keeper,” Artham said.

Esben nodded. “I’m sure you’re right.”

“Excuse me, a moment, I need to check something upstairs,” Ari said, standing up. Artham nodded, a tight smile on his lips.

She disappeared, and it was quiet for a moment. Nia cleared her throat. “Leeli is starting to use her hands more."

Wendy smiled. “That’s good. She’s such a sweet thing.”

“Aye! She’s a sweet bairn, perfect to balance out her Podo,” Podo said, a smile on his lips. Nia nodded, and kissed Leeli’s forehead. She had been holding the baby. Kalmar and Janner had finished eating and were allowed to play on the ground. Arthra was thoughtfully eating and twirling her hair between bites. Leeli was staring at her. Esben was eating steadily, and Artham was trying to finish, but his appetite was not with him this evening.

Suddenly, a loud BANG was heard, accompanied by a scream. Artham was out of his chair immediately. Leeli started crying, and Arthra urged Nia to quiet her. He reached for his sword, and slowly started for the door, heart pounding.

It’s begun…
