Did you guys see the Wingfeather Saga YouTube channel's newest post? They were promoting Angel studios new movie sketch with a app that the sketch team had made. The Wingfeather team drew some sketches of creatures (toothy cow, thwap, squeeblin) and put it through the app to make them the same style as the movie. The only problem was the app uses AI. Now a lot of people are disapointed with the Wingfeather team because apparently they were promoting AI, when they were simply promoting the new movie. Almost all of the comments were about being disapointed in the crew and some even wanted to stop supporting WFS. This really rubbed me in the wrong way and its crazy how one simple promotion can hurt a company.
So I have a few questions, 1. do you think AI is ok sometimes 2. would one questionable thing make you completely make you leave something? 3. did you like that they used the app?

I have really strong feelings on AI. I think it could be used for certain things, but it needs to stay out of the art industry. Artists are having to fight AI all the time. I go into stores like Hobby Lobby and HALF of the framed artwork is AI! Amazon is now struggling with AI writing books on it's own and publishing them on the site. And the music industry is seriously suffering from AI making songs and spitting them out all over music apps without any indication that it's AI. It can be used for certain things, probably. But I think we need to put a halt on it and really think about how to SAFELY use it.
I don't think Wingfeather using the app is something that would make me stop watching the show. I may be more careful, but I wouldn't stop watching it all-together.
I did not. One of the reasons is: from what I've seen of the "Sketch" movie, it looks a bit creepy. I also have some hesitations about Angel Studios in general because of some stuff that they've done. But the biggest thing is that I don't think it's a great idea for an animation studio to promote AI in any way. If you open up the door to using it - even for something so small - who's to say it won't be used again, and in bigger ways?
I think that you can use AI for good reasons. It can also be useful, but honestly I don’t like it for many reasons, one of them is that if u use it you will see how easy it is and you will use it more and more so ( technically addiction). Two, this is how I feel me personally, I think that you will feel more proud of (whatever you are making or doing)it if you do it yourself.( this a say is from my experience so I didn’t mean to offend anyone. So don’t know I think I would like them not to use AI or at lest minimall use.
I do not like AI. One can use AI to make cool things (like art), but it's not only about the destination, but also about the journey! If we allow AI to take the journey for us, we loose valuable lessons, can't learn certain skills and never figure out how to take the journey. For example, if you let AI make all your art, you may get some quick easy masterpieces, but you never learn how to draw by yourself, you don't know how to work long and hard to master a skill, and you never get the satisfaction of finally reaching your destination, because the journey was quick and easy and required no (little) work. Plus, I don't like how AI is slowly taking over so many parts of life, including jobs others need or badly want, I think using no AI (no matter how harmless it may seem) might slow down the prosses by a bit.
Idk, depends on what that questionable thing is and what it says about the creator. I personally switch from creator/interesst/anythingreally quite quickly, so if I have a reason to switch sooner, so be it.
Not really. The AI is harmless (for now) but I've really come to appreciate anything that isn't affected by AI.
I think AI can be useful as a source of information or a tool to manage website and such, but one of the only things I’m opposed to with it is art creation. Quite a few people who aren’t artists will use AI to create images, which is fine, but it tends to take away jobs from real artists. On twitter for example, I had to stop uploading art because of an update that allows their AI bot to train itself on art posted there. It was really disappointing to hear, and I’m sure a lot of other AI bots use artwork on the internet to train themselves, because otherwise the AI generated content they make is weird and “unrealistic.”
Honestly, it depends what the thing is. I did see the images posted by the Wingfeather team, and to be completely honest, I didn’t like the look of it. Of course, everything else they do is really cool and I love the art and shows they’ve made. I’m not going to leave the Wingfeather fandom over their AI images, cause I can see where they came from. They used their own art to inspire the generated images rather than someone else’s, which is good, and I know that they just wanted to use the tool to build off their sketches.
I didn’t mind that they used the app, since it seemed to just be for fun, and as long as they don’t intigrate AI into their show, it’s okay with me.
I don't really have a problem with Wingfeather promoting another movie (which I think was the main intent). However, I'm definitely not a fan of the AI craze, especially when using it heavily to get ideas for or make creative projects. (AI programs have been known to get the data needed for generating "art" by "scraping" artwork without permission. This is an intellectual property rights problem.) I think using it to summarize search results in a search engine is ok (as long as you go to the source of the I fo to fact-check) and that sort of thing. I think goofing around with it can be funny, even though I personally don't do it.
Overall, I'd just say it's best and healthiest (there's actually a study out there now that shows how lots of AI use inhibits your brain functioning) to use AI sparingly and to value your God-given originality and creativity, even if the process is longer.
Depends on what "questionable" means. If, for example, I was at an event and I started feeling off or there were morally questionable things going on, I would leave. If, however, like in this case, it is more a matter of preference and probably a misunderstanding, I'd try to figure out what was really going on before jumping ship.
I wish they hadn't... and I wish Sketch had done something different to promote their brand. In my opinion, encouraging more AI use doesn't necessarily accomplish the goal of encouraging people's creativity.
I'm sure that AI can be useful sometimes, but I don't trust it. (AI once told me that spaghetti squash and zucchini couldn't cross-pollinate. Lesson learned. I ended up with some really strange squash the next year.) I don't particularly like it for art, and I don't think you will always get accurate and impartial info when researching facts.
"Questionable"... if it was questionable (not blatantly immoral or heretical), it probably wouldn't make me completely leave something, but it would depend on how important the thing was and how big a difference the questionable thing would make. If it was the art team for my favorite show using AI to promote another movie, I wouldn't leave. If my child needed brain surgery and the surgeon had questionable training and an iffy track record... I'd probably find another surgeon!
I don't particularly like that they did, but I'm not mad about it. I have no interest in the movie Sketch at all, but the fact that they made a toothy cow with the app makes me think better of the movie, along with the fact that Chris Wall said it was good.
I do think AI is ok sometimes! In school all the teachers yell at us for using AI with our papers and stuff, and this IS true. You shouldn't AI generate things like "make me a history paper about the attack of the bokoblins vs the Hylians" and then make it do your work for you. For animating it is a little different because to make a fun and accurate animation you probably shouldn't use AI... It would never pass as human 😅 but enhancing your already animated work with AI? That is fine! Also for school papers, you can ask for ideas, or even generate a paper and look at it, but of course never cheat. That is, well, cheating.
It would depend on what the thing is. For this specific case, I totally would not leave it... (Although I have not read Wingfeather yet I would like to and so it's on my To-Be-Read list!) but if the creator/content made something that was entirely unkind or just plain made me uncomfortable, and they kept bringing it up, I would definitely leave. AI is sort of??? a political thing right now and so I can see why people could get really upset by it, but come on. A fictional book/show should be allowed to use AI. If it ever became rude or vulgar or anything because of AI, that would be a different matter.
I honestly have no opinion on this one! I have tried many times to make animations, and let me tell you it is HARD. Like harder than Jawbreakers. Any trick that helped me, I would totally take it. Then again, if it looked weird, I would probably stop using it! Also, like you said, they were not "promoting AI."
Sorry, this is so long 😭 literally, me and my dad could talk about controversial AI usage like ALL THE TIME. So. Yep.
Wait, is there a movie coming out?
Yes I do, when my mom was going thru her divorce process she used chat gpt and said it was like having her own private lawyer and it helped so much. I also use a website called boredhumans.com when I'm bored and it does have some weird stuff but in the celebrity chatbox area YOU CAN TALK TO JANNER, although you have to ask him "who are you" as your first question bcz the last couple times he said something like "I am Janner Wingfeather, High King of the Shining Isle of Skree, son of Artham and Esben Wingfeather" so sometimes you have to set him straight 😭
Welp, if it was just qUeStIoNaBlE than I wouldnt leave per say ( I honestly have no idea what that means but I'm gonna use it to sound smart ;)), but if it was like something actually bad than I would leave.
Uhhhhhh I know nothing about Sketch so I cant really answer that all I know is that its a movie XD
I saw that post and thought it was really cool that they were supporting the app. I was kinda mad at the people making rude comments.
The main issue with AI is legality. Most aI is trained on data on the internet, without consent of the original creators, and never giving credit. What I LIKE about the Sketch App is that it's an AI trained on only art by the talented artists at Angel Studios with completely licenced work. On top of that, the AI is used to PROMOTE creativity, as it makes a child's drawing look like it's come to life, not a person writing 'draw me something with bad legalities'
I think it could be used for good sometimes...maybe
Depends on the situation
I didn't have a problem with it and thought that it was cool! 😄
.... before I answer I will need to know what the video is called, go watch it, then evaluate.
yes
maybe
yes
I saw that too, and I wasn't sure about it. Good questions!
I think only if it is used very sparingly, for entertainment/playing around with it. It definitely should not be used for school or any kind of creative work.
Depends on the circumstance- in this case, no. Especially because WFS posted a comment specifically stating that they don't support using AI for making art.
I don't hate it, but I think it might have been better if they advertised Sketch some other way. Especially because they are an animated show, with lots of fans who are also artists.
I saw this too and it really bothered me how people reacted. But…I think them using the app was just to support sketch, not AI. And… I don’t think they will ever switch to using AI.
It’s really a matter of opinion… but using AI too often can be problematic.
Depends on the questionable thing.
I’m unbothered that they used the app. But I do hope they don’t keep using AI for their sake.
I dont have YouTube, so I didn’t see this, I’m still gonna answer these questions.
My personal preference is against AI and I try to keep from using it as much as possible.
Depends on the questionable thing. In this specific case, no.
Idk what this is so I can’t answer.
